Monday April 18th Today on the chopping block is a n Every Ready Lather Catcher. Four easy passes and BBS and just a faint tickle from the alum. I enjoy the way this razor shaves but.... I hate the light weight super skinny handle. If only I could change the handle. Irritation A Closeness A Smoothness A- Keenness A- No pic Monday Definitely staying: Genco Easy Aces SR, hard to let go of cool looking, great shaving piece of vintage American steel just because it is smaller than I like. It is also my only vintage American SR. GEM Junior Leaning toward staying: Wade and Butcher will stay in the SR stable until a much nicer specimen can be sourced. Ever Ready Lather Catcher Released after further use: JR 5/8 round point. I will use this razor to improve my honing skills. Leaning toward releasing: Jerry Stark 5/8 SR. Looks great, shaves great just to small a blade. I would prefer to sell this and trade up for a larger blade GEM Micromatic Open Comb - or in short MMOC (in gold) Will be released: Sight unseen Whipped Dog SR. This shaves great but I want to PIF it to someone who wants to get started with SR. (PIFed) Merkur Vision - despite major coolness she can't compete with an aggressive Futur. BBS-1 - Give my move to the dark side it is just not aggressive enough to remain in my DE stable. (sold) Fatip Piccolo (sold) Mongoose Merkur 37C slant GEM Micromatic Open Comb - or in short MMOC (silver coloured)
Not for me. I want all the scents and aftershave balms just to try. I want full size of the few I have tried. I wonder how to get on her list of testers?
MAYhem begins in two weeks!!!!! And I think I have a unique and hopefully fun and interesting plan for the merry month of MAY that will be entertaining, perhaps educational, and potentially foolhardy. I'm not giving the whole plan away yet, but I'm putting out a call for volunteers. I hear you asking "volunteers......for what?!?!" It's simple really. I'm going to need those who would like to help me out to choose two numbers a day. If I get 31 volunteers everybody gets a day. If I get 15, then they get to go twice. And so on. What numbers will you be choosing? It's simple. From 1 to 15. Twice. In other words, on your day you might choose 2 and 7. That would be 2 from the first column and 7 from the second column. And what's in the columns? Stay tuned and you'll know soon enough. Just let me know if you'd like to be a member of the participating audience and volunteer to help MAYhem rock!
04/18/2016 Cobra Classic Feather Pro (6) Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic Proraso Green Witch Hazel Myrsol Formula K Sample Whipped Shea Butter I used Noxzema as a preshave face wash. This morning was my first time using Proraso and my first time using soap with menthol. The Proraso lathered easily and had a nice cooling effect. The soap did have enough residual slickness for minor touch ups. Sticking with my normal 2 pass shave, XTG & ATG, followed by minor touch ups ended in a with a near BBS. Finished off with a splash of Myrsol Formula K from the sample pack. I hope everyone has a great Monday.
SOTD April 18, 2016 Russian blades focus Menthol Monday Prep: Warm shower Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1) Razor: Maggard MR1 handle with V2 open comb Brush: Vulfix 2006C Pure Badger Lather: Soap Commander Endurance M-Bombed Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with Old Spice kcock-off, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, XTG Pretty nice shave in two passes. The Vulfix brush is new to me from a PIF courtesy of @PickledNorthern. Unfortunately it lost a good many hairs in the loading and lathering processes. I'll try it again in a few days with hopefully less hair loss. It's otherwise nice and soft and a good looking brush. I bowl lathered the Endurance soap with some TSD M-bomb but I probably needed to load more soap in the beginning. I didn't have the volume I can normally get from bowl lathering. The Astra SP blade worked quite well in the Maggard razor. Two quick passes and it's time to start the day. Have a great Monday!
I really enjoy Proraso! I usually use the Green variety on Mondays but today went with some M-bomb. Glad you enjoyed it.
SOTD April 18, 2016 Prep: Hot Shower. Noxzema Razor: Mongoose B3 Dr. Bomber Handle Blade: Feather Professional Lather: Soapy Bathman Tropical Lime Brush: Shave Revolution "Evolution" Synthetic 24mm Post: Thayers Rose Petal WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Folsom & Co. Capri Wonderful shave. The Shave Revolution "Evolution" brush is excellent. Soapy Bathman Tropical Lime. WOW! I was looking for a summer soap and I found it. And now to the Mongoose, what a beautiful piece of shaving hardware! I can see the AlumiGoose in rotation very soon. What defines us is how well we rise after falling.
It's my first Soapy Bathman soap as I've been watching this soap maker for a bit now, tropical lime is exactly what I was looking for in a summer soap. It's a stronger scented soap which I enjoy sometimes.
