Received a pair of brushes and new bowl!! 1- Colannino's Sicilian Soapstone Bowl & Black-tip badger brush 2-Vestavia Silver-tip
Is the Colannino brush handle soapstone? If so, how is the "heft"? How is it when lathering....slick, hard to hold? The bowl and handle are beautiful. Thanks........
Yep, the handle is soapstone as well with a very nice amount of "heft". Haven't shaved with it yet, but I will post when I do. It has nice deep grooves in the handle with a slight textured feel. My guess is that it will be very easy to grip with little slip.
Really cool looking set, let's us know how they lather. Seems the soapstone should hold heat well once warm.
Ok, so I have a few shaves with both brushes and new bowl. Both I used Saponificio Varesino Dolomiti soap. By the way, one of the best soaps I've used to date!! 1-Colannino's Brush The handle is awesome!! Great weight and a surprisingly great grip. No slippage at all. The grooves grab your fingers and lock them in place. The knot on the other hand I'm not impressed. Now I know it's no silver-tip, but I didn't like it at all. Way to tall and flimsy. It's all over the place. It makes a horrible lather and just flattens on your face. Both face and bowl later are no good. Now because I like the handle so much I'm going to replace the knot, as I picture it becoming one of my favorites with the right setup. 2-Vestavia Silver-tip This brush is hands down amazing. First the weight of the handle is great, lots of "heft". Despite the slick look of the handle, it actually stays in place very well and does not slip at all. The knot is a 25mm and is a perfect size. At least for my face. The lather build was perfect, quick, and of coarse held lots of slick product. Hands down a great product I would definitely recommend. 3- The bowl was nice, lots of weight and held heat very well. The only slight dislike is its a little small in the bowl. Not a big deal though as it worked great with the Vestavia. Not so much with matching brush. Hopefully that will change with new knot.
