A lot of great players mentioned here, I am a big John Petrucci fan, a very versatile player that many times plays tributes to a lot of the greats already mentioned in this thread For your enjoyment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3xEkBftw1A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiaGECY8LWw
His name has been mentioned several times in this thread. Cool commercial... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV9MjMy8rHE&feature=related
Thanks for mentioning Danny Gatton. Having known Danny, and having had the pleasure of hanging out in his club in Georgetown (DC) many many nights, I was just amazed at the depth of talent Danny had. My brother studied with him for several years, and Danny was just an amazing man.
Betcha can't choose just one! I can't pick just one favorite, but, some of my favorites are: Eric Clapton Jeff Beck Danny Gatton The 3 Kings (BB, Albert, and Freddie) Jimi Hendrix Robert Fripp Adrian Belew Les Paul Stevie Ray Vaughn Allen Holdsworth Pat Martino Phil Manzanera More to come, my brain isnt working at full speed
Thanks for that story! He is one of the most under-appreciated guitarists out there (outside of the guitar community). I also left Buddy Guy off of my list (everybody, including me, always forgets him), thanks to TstebinsB for bringing him up.
I'll toss in Eddie Van Halen. The rest of my musical taste is punk rock, which doesn't require a great deal of skill, so not many stand out, but I do have to say that I also liked the late, great Johnny Ramone. Maybe he couldn't hang with the virtuosos, but you can't knock his impact.
My favorites would be: Angus Young - AC/DC Malcolm Young - AC/DC Richard Z. Krupse - Rammstein Paul H. Landers - Rammstein Skwisgar and Toki - Dethklok Adrian Smith - Iron Maiden John Pretrucci Pat O'Brien - Cannibal Corpse Rob Barret - Cannibal Corpse Bucket Head Jack Black - Tenacious D Kyle Gass - Tenacious D
I might've missed him in the list, but I'd add Eric Johnson to it if he's not there already. Wow. Just wow.
Absolutely Parkening! I'm surprised he's only been mentioned once . . . Robby Longley is good, too. And the LAGQ (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet) is required listening if you enjoy guitar music as well.
There's so many it's hard to pick just one. I'm very fond of John Williams. And a +1 for Roy Clark... although I don't necessarily listen to much of his music (I'm not a big C&W music fan), I remember seeing Roy Clark play Flight of the Bumblebee in quadruple-time... it was many years ago... probably on one of his many Johnny Carson Show appearances. Anyway, I was duly impressed. I read somewhere that he plays something like a dozen instruments... obviously the banjo, guitar, and fiddle, but also piano, trumpet, and trombone!
Hard to select only one. A couple previously mentioned, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen. Definitely need to mention Marty Friedman and Jason Becker. One person nobody has mentioned, so I'll do so. Mr Paul Gilbert of Racer X fame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPGA3vjMLgE Wanted to include a nice clip of Yngwie Malmsteen... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN5FAcd2sbM
