Arko April!! Combined post Derby day 7 and 8. Apologies for my absence, all is well, just super busy. I hope to catch up and be online a bit more tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Great looking picture this morning (@Boojum1) Mark. That brush handle looks excellent. Thanks for the heads up on the Derby Extra. I'm using one now and enjoying the Derby.
04/23/2016 Gem 1912 Damaskeene GEM PTFE (6) Rubberset 400 #3 with WSP HMW Tiki Cabernet Neroli Witch Hazel Fine L’Orange Whipped Shea Butter I have enjoyed the weekend shaves with the Gem Razor and today was no exception since it was another relaxing shave. The big 400 #3 whipped up the Tiki into a mountain of slick lather. I decided to go with a traditional 3 pass shave. The Gem gives such rewarding audible feedback with the sound of the stubble being mowed down. After minor touch ups, I ended with a BBS everywhere but above my lips. I still need a little more practice to master that spot with the Gem. Finished with a splash of Fine L'Orange. Off to take care of the honey do list. I hope everyone has a fantastic Saturday.
Hello TSD - here's my weekend shave: - Tabac Rasierseife - HJM Black Fibre - Eduard Wirz 5/8 wedge - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser Today I used Tabac for the first time - very nice soap! Lathers as easily as Arko, but smells much better The cheap synthetic brush did a great job as well. Not quite as soft as the Mühle STF, but still very nice. Decent backbone and very good lathering capability. And I think it looks more expensive than it actually is The shave itself was nice and smooth, one pass WTG, the second one XTG. i concentrated on skin stretching, since I realized that this is one of the more important aspects of straight razor shaving (I don't bother much with stretching when I shave with a DE razor). Slowly getting the hang of it, I think - DFS in two passes without touchups ... no cuts, no irritations. Have a great weekend

Soap Focus I had this soap stashed in the back of a shelf and dug it out for my focus. I had acquired it as part of a lot when I thought I was a cream user. This is the first of my soaps that I will keep in my regular rotation with my Route 66. It lathers nicely and has a wonderful citrusy scent. SOTD Mike's Natural Soap Doug Korn synthetic brush Schick H1 Chick blade (1) Alum Thayers Witch Hazel Ogallala Bay Rum Have a great weekend!
Razor: Gillette Gold Tech 1940's Blade: Derby Extra (7) Brush: WDC-8 TGN Finest Soap: Route 66 Sweeny Todd A/S: Route 66 Sweeny Todd Finished the week with the Tech and Derby Extra blade. Everything went well and I got some DFS. I used my Red Tip until the Bunny V3 arrives. That should be early next week. Have a fine day. Route 66 Sweeny Todd shaving soap is brimming with the aroma of delicious Sicilian blood oranges, with their signature spicy berry undertone, blended with a hint of fir, warmed on a rich woody base. I don't usually care for A/S Balms, but is an exception. It is great.
I love smoking meats. I have a small side-box smoker. It's so relaxing to sit out and spend the day tending to the flames and consuming choice beverages. I'm jealous Clint!
Arko April!!! Planned SOTD 23 April 2016 Fatip Grande Derby Extra (9) L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Arko!!! Alum Osage Rub Super busy week, finally taking a day of rest! So far this blade has performed beautifully, and will live to see a day nine. Got bored and decided to do some Osage today! I can't ain't for May and a new focus. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, and finds rest and relaxation in all the best ways. Back to springtime, 74f and full sun on the prairie. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado! Have a wonderful evening!
OK so, I have a story. I skipped my shave this morning so I could do something fun with hit this afternoon. While at work at about 7:30am I was slicing onions when the knife slipped off the onion and into my left ring finger. The tip 1/4 inch of finger was half sliced off. I filled out all the accident paperwork taped it up, finger cot and back to work. Well everytime I get it wet at all it bleeds like mad again so when I got home my fun was shortened some. CJB Feather Super Pro (?6, 7, 8?) VdH boar William Marvy Shave Soap Nivia sensitive cooling Aftershave Balm I decided to try this terrible soap and see what was so bad about it. I had planned on a test lather with each brush in my stable but not being able to get my left hand wet put a damper on that. I decided to use the VdH. As you can see in the following pictures, the Marvy shave soap was the same size and shape as the Williams Mug. It was smaller and thinner than the VdH soap. The scent is something everyone has smelled before. Remember that pink goopy soap that used to be used in school bathrooms and public hospital areas? That's what it smells like. I filled the deeper of the 2 dished sides with hot water and let it sit for several minutes. I loaded up for about 15 sec and made large clouds of fluffy airy lather that was bubbly and useless. I kept at it until it stared looking usable. I shaved 2 passes and had the soap for 2 more loaded in the brush. My blade was nt very sharp so I'm blaming the rough shave on that. The Marvy soap will get more use in MAYhem. I ended up with a SAS, a raw spot on the left corner of my mouth and a few weapers. I'll change blade and finish out the month on a different soap then get into the Marvy again.
