How much "unobtainium" do you have?

    Hi

I'm resurrecting this thread to get an idea about a particular razor that I'm looking to find out more about, but thought it would be fun to list my other hens teeth.

I can't find anything useful online about my OC Merkur Slant, it's certainly a curiosity but it would be good to find out more about when it was made and for how long.

    The others are:

English Dubarry Silkashave soap from 1930s
Sterling silver Ever Ready shaving brush (no idea about this one either :) )
New old stock Aristocrat 15 with all paperwork, shipper etc.
    Ben Hur Mikron adjustable
Handpainted Waverley Lavender shaving soap mug

That's it, so far at least. Anyone with ideas on the Merkur or Ever Ready?

The Merkur is very old. Dates back to the 1920's or 1930's, possibly even earlier. It's fairly rare. In the last six or seven years, I've seen less than ten of them. A particularly rare varient is that razor, made for Abercrombie & Fitch, back when they actually provided premium sporting goods, rather than hipster clothing for teens. It's one of the very few all brass slants available. Almost all others were made from zinc or some type of bakelite or plastic.

The English Dubarry soap I can't help you out much on, but they were well known for obtaining paintings and making a series of full color 'patriotic' and 'pastoral' prints on ceramic shaving soap containers off of those paintings. Those are quite collectable today.

The Ever Ready brush is uncommon. A guy on Badger & Blade has one that he got from a French seller. @bladeshark does too.

A NOS #15? Wow. What's the story behind that acquisition?

Ben Hur Mikron adjustable is fairly rare, any pitting or corrosion?

Here's a thread on the Waverly Soap, no real info, but a picture of the NOS puck. They really filled that mug with soap.

    You should post more pictures!

Not unobtainable, but I don't see these often

    - NIB British Flare Tip Rocket travel set.
    - Darwin Deluxe with "coffin" and a couple of assorted Darwin blades.
    - Apollo slant. Don't know what model it is, but it has metal top and base plates, faux ivory handle with a metal cap on the bottom.
    - Danish "Ginge" razor.
    - Danish "Jyden" bakelite razor with matching "Jyden" razor blade sales display

It's remarkable how much stuff a person can accumulate in less than a year. The Kent and Simpson's brush are now gone, passed onto others who will appreciate them more than I (a Kent and Simpson's collector, respectively).

    But I have added:
The first British and American TTO razors:
A 1936 British one-piece open comb Aristocrat (the predecessor of the #15), and an April 1936 advert from Punch for the same. The razor sold for 15/- schillings, which adjusting for inflation, would put the modern cost of this razor at £165.74. The average weekly wage for skilled labour was about 42 schillings (just over £2 pre decimal currency) in 1936.

A mint #58 Aristocrat Junior set
    A mint Senator set
    A mint Sheraton set
    A New Forest Two-Band Badger Tubby 1
    A Bigelow Parkins Travel Razor

I really should have added my 1930's Cooper MonoBilt to my original post. They are rarer than I originally assumed, and a 1909 rubberset travel brush that I forgot I owned.
