Unfortunatly i have thin blond hair on my legs. No real need to shave. Except when wearing stalkings.

Be afraid, be very afraid when Tom starts stalking. Don't do anything to get him started.

    TONIGHTS SHAVE.

    RAZOR : ER 1924
    BLADE: Star Super Edge (2)
    BRUSH: Boar 24mm WD
    SOAP: Haslinger Sandalwood

    AS: Ogallala Peppercorn and Lime

Tonight was my second shave with the Star Super Edge blade. I gave it 10 up and backs last night after my first shave. I gave it
another 10 tonight before my shave. Face lathered my Haslinger and had a great slick lather. I started my first pass and could instantly tell the blade was much smoother than last night. Mind you last night was very smooth. I continued my first pass and the audible feedback with this combo is incredible. It is almost like it is vibrating it is so pronounced. Super easy to keep the correct angle.

To cut to the chase, I had an incredible 3 pass shave. This was a true BBS shave. I could feel virtually no stubble anywhere, even under my jaw. I have never touched a Dolphin but I think I may have had my first Dolphin smooth shave. I don't know if it was luck or this combination of tools. I will keep this setup for the next few shaves. I want to see how long the Star blade can last.

Any tips on stropping this will be greatly appreciated. I have a plain leather strop, and one loaded with some red stropping paste. Very light application of paste mind you. Or should I clean that of and use Chromium oxide? Brand new to stropping SE blades.

    Have a great night
    Tom

The Chromium Oxide should only be used on these Blades when Normal Stropping isn't doing its job & they Start to Tug..In other words to Refresh an Edge..Even then about 1o laps a Side should be around enough as it can Destroy these blades edges quickly...I Don't even Use Red Oxide for Maintaining an Edge on these particular blades ...I Daily Strop on Leather when I am using them..:)

In Short Once you have the blade shave Ready Daily stropping on leather should suffice..When you think they are losing their keenness Go onto Red Oxide Periodically & then when that's not working Go onto Chromium Oxide..I prefer a Cushioned 0.5 Lapping Film..:p

These Blades Edges are So Easy to Destroy by Pastes..:angelic007:

Thanks for the tips.I will stick to 10 laps post shave. It is amazing how smooth it was tonight. last night was very nice mind you.

Is 10 up and backs too many?

I was Referring to Being Canny with the Chromium Oxide Tom..I Strop them for around 30 -4o Laps a Side After Shaving with them & that seems to keep a Keen Edge for the Next Shave..You May need to Do More with the Chromiuam Oxide to Bring Back an Edge Initially but once they are Up & Running to refresh an Edge about 10 Laps a side should be enough..:)

I also use a Very Soft Cow Hide Leather Strop that I keep Oiled to keep it Supple & Provide some Glide..I only use this particular Strop with these Blades..I also have a Nylon back on this Strop which I use periodically in Tandem with the Leather..But only for 10 Laps a Side or So..:p

It all down to Getting to know the blade & knowing when enough is enough..More isn't Better..Correct is More..:angelic007:

I made my strops out off an old leather recliner. I salvaged the leather from the back side of it. It is just about right for thickness. I would guess 4-5 oz.
It is nice and smooth. I conditioned them with Neats foot oil. I will need to keep close track of the blade and my stropping routine. Exciting stuff these blades. I wish they still made them. It is a crap shoot buying them. I have bought about 20 blades, and only half of them were salvageable. The good thing is I payed less than a $1 per blade.

Once you get a Good Handful of Ones that can be made Shave Ready for all we are going to be using them they will last for years..Modern Folks Destroy these blades by over doing things I reckon..The sharp edge on these blades once you have it is so easily Destroyed..:D

In the Old Days these Blades were Exchanged & Re exchanged for Re Sharpened blades for Hell Knows how Long..They were Designed to last for a very long-time with the proper care.. :)

    A few questions here:
What's the difference between red paste and chromium oxide?
Billy, are you stropping on a hanging strop as well as the lapping film? Are you laying it flat on a surface and using tape "wings" to move the blade on it?
Tom, the razor looks like a Micromatic and the handle of that stropper looks like the "Sun Ray" version of an Ever Ready 1912 set. Is it?

Chromium oxide is 0.5 Micron & Red Oxide is 0.2 Micron..I only use the 0.5 Lapping Film Instead of Chromium Oxide..Just Different Tools is All..I Use a Stropping Handle with these Blades..I am Not a Fan of Auto Strops cause I reckon they put too much pressure on the Edge..They are Not a Magic Wand..Its Easy to Over Do things with them..But that's Me Talkin Tho..Using a Stropping Handle & Hanging Strop allows more Control for a Lighter Touch & a Keener Edge..:)

Did you make the stropping handle or was it a part salvaged from an auto-stropper - or??? :signs002:
