SOTD May 9, 2016 Prep: Warm shower Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick G1 Injector Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic Lather: C.O. Bigelow Cream M-Bombed Post: Witch hazel splash, TSD SubZero, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up Nice shave this morning with the Schick G1 injector. This follows two uncomfortable shaves over the weekend with a GEM Featherweight. Today was a redemption from those experiences. I added about 5 drops of M-Bomb to my scuttle and then whipped up some Bigelow cream on top of it. Nice, thick, excellent lather. The G1 maneuvered around very nicely. The TSD SubZero splash added another layer of cool. One big pass with touch-ups is all I needed on this Monday. Hope you all have a great day!
Aw geez I did it! I think Vince had 5 posts in a row! OK everybody, I guess its officially Hydro-Magic May!
MENTHOL MONDAY SOTD Mon. 5/9/16 Prep: Noxzema Classic PSO: None SS: Proraso Green SB:@Jayaruh #12 Razor: Pal Injecto-Matic Blade: Schick Super Chromium (2) ASB: Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill Shower Soap Bar: Grandpa's Patchouli/Aloe Cologne: Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene Good morning friends. Today's shave was even better than yesterday's which i didn't even think was possible. Surprisingly i forgot to use my pre shave oil this morning. Gonna exclude it tomorrow again just to see if this might have been the difference. Dolphin smooth again today, beautiful! Proraso Green is such a performer and a true value for the money. Wonderful finish with the Glacial Lemon Chill Balm from Stirling. Have a great shave and a great day guys.
A general injector razor question for the group. I've found it much more difficult to get a close shave with an injector than a DE. I'm not giving up though. But, the injectors feel heavy and loud. By "heavy" I mean the blade feels like it's a half-inch thick (not wide). By "loud" there's always lots of feedback. But CCS is all I can manage. I think "angle" may be the problem. What IS the correct angle on an injector?
The head is close to flat on the face. Start there and then lower the handle until you feel it cutting the whiskers. That will give you the angle. No need to go much past that. You might also experiment a bit with different blades. For example, in the Gs I find the Personnas and various NOS blades amp up the performance over the use of a Schick.
In honor of Vince and Hydro-Magic May the Wedge Train has made an unscheduled stop. Today's SOTD featured my K3. Clean, easy, great shave. The seller thought it was a cut-off K2 and kindly sent me the medallion and case when I asked if she had them. @Billyfergie has two excellent examples of these and are the only other ones I've seen. Surprisingly it gave me a few very small weepers, something the wedges have been remarkably free of. Who'd have thought? Thanks for your support gents! May 9, 2016 SOTD - Menthol Monday and....it’s Hydro-Magic May! I’ll spend the month with my three Schick Eversharp razors that sport the Hydro-Magic shaving/cleansing head - Types I2, J3, K1 Hot Shower Razor: 1962-1968 Type K Lady Eversharp Beauty Razor Blade: Schick (Holland) (2) Soap: Catties Bubbles Mile High Menthol Brush: Rooney 3/3 "Super" Silvertip TSD Witch Hazel AS: Myrsol Blue Like a few others who have bought razors for their significant others, Mrs. RTF prefers shorter handled razors. So as I’m spending 2016 going through all my injectors, I reached that point in the alphabet where it was time to try it out. Testosterone-driven ego pushed aside, I stepped up to the Lady Eversharp Beauty Razor. My excellent Sunday shave set me up with minimal whiskers today. So I planned a one-pass shave (ATG), with touch-ups. Obviously this razor was made for short arms and long legs. (My physique is the opposite…TMI, i know.) So I choked up on the handle and enjoyed a very good shave. (yes, of my face!) A bit more feedback than I expected, but perhaps it was this sharp blade. Touch ups were minimal and resulted in a silky smooth shave that compares very well with my other two, manly, hydro-magic Schicks. Cheers! RT

Ditto, both comments from Karl. About blades, injector blades are obviously more substantial (thick). Some state that the thickness makes them more stable, with less vibration than the ultra thin DE blades. Here's the YMMV part - This is odd, but I've not yet used a new Personna blade. Which is very strange when one considers there are only three current makers (i think) of injector blades: Personna, Schick China, and Schick Japan. I guess I've never had a problem with the Chinese version, so I haven't tried the others. But they have a following as well. But as Karl mentioned, NOS blades can really raise the performance level. But damn they can be tough to find. But worth it, IMHO, if you can find/afford them. So back to you having plateaued at the CCS level... Karl gave you the angle advice. I've always said that injector shaving kind of sounds like separating velcro! But, as I recall, that sound increases as you get further from the flat head of the injector, so angle may be your issue. Maybe try a couple strokes on your cheek (WTG) while flat against the head, then - while in the same area, start with head flat but then drop the handle a wee bit for a few strokes and compare. When I first started with injectors (same as DE, as I think of this) it was easier for me to find the angle if I started on the flat (or cap) and as I stroked, lowered the handle ever so slightly to find the right angle. Repeating that over and over helped me learn the angle more quickly, rather than just starting at what I thought was the best angle. ...and Gents, correct me if I'm wrong...is it your experience that though you use a light touch with most injectors, aren't we using just slightly more pressure than when using a DE? (and I mean - just slightly more). Herm, just keep telling yourself, - if Vince can do it...
Many thanks to Karl, @PLAla (I'm sorry your name eludes me) and Vince for the great advice on injectors. I'm planning on using an injector until the Bunny comes my way. Starting out mild with the K1 to a G then an E and then a B just before Bunny. My motto is now WWVD or What Would Vince Do. Then I do the opposite...LOL.
