This morning I went with more canned goo and my CJB loaded with a fresh Dorco. Tomorrow will be the same and then the Sharp blade on Sat.

One pass lazy shave for a CCS.

Razor - 1918 Gillette Old Style
    Blade - tiger-stainless.jpg (1)
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Soap - Marvy
Post - Nivea, Aloe, Nivea, Aloe.....more Nivea, more Aloe, and a bottle of Aloe to work with me

Well, here it is boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen and all the ships at sea. The Tiger and the Old Style. Truly a match made someplace other than heaven. And, when trying to accomplish this with the fast dissipating and horrible smelling Marvy soap, well, let's just say I might have slit my wrists.....except this piece of...........something..........of a blade won't cut anything that I can find. It can scrape, pull, tug, scrape some more, and generally create irritation out the wazoo.....but cut? I laugh.....hysterically.......almost insanely.

The lather actually turned out fairly nice for Marvy, though with the stiffer boar brush it was a chore. I just got it wetter than normal and let that do what it could. I also reapplied fairly often as I moved to a new area that it was already fading in.

The 1918 allows a lot of exposure for the Tiger to work its magic. You get the feeling it wants to cut something, mostly because it grabs and drags and tugs and pulls, and you feel like you should have a beard reduction if only from yanking it out with this blade. But oh no.....not going to do anything like that. Let's just create pain and agony and laugh at the idea of doing its job. In a milder razor this blade is horrible. In an aggressive one, well I think I know a new torture method if you need one. Repeated passes with this thing.

I managed one full pass and went back and tried XTG. Made it halfway and said nope, nada, no more. Don't have time to even try. I can honestly say that there was some reduction......but it would have taken several, maybe a dozen, I don't know maybe only 9, to get any kind of decent shave. And the pain level was increasing with each attempt.

I finished with one pass from the '59 Super Speed and Sharp Star just to get an acceptable shave, and yes, I did use alum. Shouldn't have, but I did. On FIRE baby. Nivea helped a bit. Aloe helped a little more. Went back for another layer of Nivea, and Aloe again, and I used the aloe a couple of times at work. The redness and burn just didn't want to die.

No blood, but again, if you cut yourself with this blade you are really trying way too hard. My recommendation? Stay far, far away from this thing. I really don't know how they're selling them, even to the Nigerian market, although it may be just punishment for the Nigerians who spend all their time trying to scam you to cash money orders for them.

The 1918 is up again tomorrow with the @mrchick shave along with the Big Ben Blue, Arko and....joy of joys....the Marvy brush. :angry032::angry019::angry032::angry019: Did I mention this has been a tough week of MAYhem? Yeah, thought so.

Off to Lambert to pick up SWMBO from her week of residency there. I'll be back later on to catch up with everyone and everything else. I'm glad she was gone for this shave though. The constant swearing would have probably made her call me crazy. But we all know that isn't true.

Pre: Shower, wash with Nivea face wash

    Razor: Gillette Slim
    Blade: Voskhod (day 2)
    Brush: TGN Finest Badger
    Soap: Catie's Bubbles

Post: cold water rinse, Maggard alum block, witch hazel, Nivea sensitive cooling after shave balm. (Yes a new one)

Tonight was a quick shave for the most part, only a 2 pass because my neck was still a little raw from yesterday. First pass WTG pretty good reduction, second pass XTG and got a DFS. I finished with a cold water rinse, followed by my alum which let me know I was wise to stop. splashed some witch hazel and then tried a new ASB my father picked up for me. It's Nivea cooling after shave balm, not sure how much cooling there was but a little. All in all a decent shave given last nights shave.

I'm packing the new Gillette Fat Boy to take with me this weekend and I think I'm going to try GSB blades. I'll let everyone know how it goes when I return.

I've packed everything for my wet shaving this weekend, I think. Got my razor, blades, TGN synthetic brush, Soap, Alum, after shave balm, just don't have anything to take some witch hazel in this time.

I know this is supposed to be MAYhem...but today makes four great shaves on this blade in the DeFitch. @Darkbulb turned me on this razor, and it's an efficient and capable 89type head. The Focus for May is "riding the cap", and this razor is no exception. Riding the cap with this razor provides easy two pass DFS, little effort required. The mass of the brass razor handle is well matched yo the geometry and provides the right pressure effortlessly. Managed to work from 06:30 until 20:00, other than that... all is quiet in Colorado.

I have had my rear end kicked this entire month but this...this was the shave that almost made me reach for something else. Back when you used carts you ever keep a head on the razor like oh I don't know 758 years past the time you should have binned it? Well it was like that kind of....only worse... only infinite times worse.

    Joe,

If you're using Alum, you don't need witch hazel necessarily. They both do the same thing! Have fun!

Did you notice a difference in the blade? I feel like days 2-5 on Voskhod are the best.
