Hi there, Just joined this forum and it seems to be veryintresting. I would like to ask that Ths time I am considering to switch to a double-edged safety razor as I have read from reviews that they do indeed shave better than a Mach3 or Fusion. I also came to know that the blades are far cheaper than the Gillette cartridges. Please help.
Howdy, Wantedteen (real name?) I'd recommend you to get a DE over any cartridge razor. Check with Lee from http://leesrazors.com/ he's a helluva nice guy. A good and reliable razor would be the Merkur Heavy Duty (HD), which many of us use and like. As far as blades are concerned, there are many out there, Feathers, Derby Extras and Personnas are amongst the most beloved. Ask in the shop-section here, maybe someone will be able to send you a sample-pack with different blades for you to try. As an alternative, you could check back with Rene (SSLStudio) here on the board to send you a complete starter package with a Parker DE, some blades, shaving creams and more for a reasonable price. oh, and welcome to the shave den Klaus
young man, this is a forum for traditional wetshaving, not for conventional shaving. The majority of us here wouldn't use cartridge razors, because they defeat the purpose and the meaning of this forum. I personally advise you to switch to a DE, or if you really feel like taking the plunge, to a straight razor. Please, don't ask for advice on cartridge razors. Another point, can you please sign off with a first name, because it helps to lend a much more friendly air to the group. Thank you. Jeff
I would hope no one here would look down on someone for using a cartridge razor. I feel this forum is all about finding what works for you, even if it is a cartridge razor. However, the OP isn't about what the thread title refers to.
Joanna, I personally have no issues at all with anyone who prefers cartridge razors, although I myself don't use them. I just feel, I couldn't give anyone any advice on choosing one. Jeff
To answer your question about which cartridge is best - neither.. I suggest you do the switch to a Double Edge razor, the suggestion on the Merkur 34c HD is a good one - another cheaper option might be a Parker razor.. Also aviable from René.. Or you might wanna go eBay and try to find a vintage razor.. The options are many.. But if you for some other reason want to stick with a cartridge Ill go with a Sensor (not the Exel) witch was the last cartridge I used.. It is pretty decent and will not cost as much as the newer ones..
If anyone has any questions on cartridge razor they can feel free to ask any questions they may have. We also have a forum dedicated to cartridge razors that anyone can use to post or ask questions. the fact that most of us use another method of shaving does not preclude anyone from asking cartridge related questions. anyway I smell.... Raf
Most guys who have gone to DEs prefer the Mach 3, but really, that's a question you have to answer with your face. Like the mighty moderator said, there is a cartridge razor forum if you want to know about cartridges. If you want to know more about safety razors, this here is the correct forum to post in!
DE versus cartridge I used a Fusion power before I made the switch to a DE razor. I started with just going to a shaving brush and TOBS cream. This was better than what I was doing, but when I made the switch to a DE razor, I also got smoother shaves, less or no irritation and no ingrown hairs. I'll never go back! I'm not sure as I save any money as now I buy multiple creams and soaps, blades, brush holders, etc. No disorders yet, but I see the potential.
I shall go with Mach3 because i have found that those are the best for me .Although blades are cheap but those are not comfortable .
What I'm curious about is what the hell kind of successor Gillette could possibly be working on for the Fusion. 13 blades? 1 wacko blade? Jet packs? Windows operating system? I personally think that the Quattro and Fusion represent a dead end in shaving. Even if they come up with a 7-blade razor in a few years, who cares? Are they going to force Sensor and Mach 3 users to give up their tools? In another field, the successor to Miller Lite wasn't Miller Clear (an actual product, for those who never saw it). It was an American version of something like Pilsner Urquell. By the way, if you're thinking about double edge razors, there are also single edge razors and injector razors. Single edge razors have been catching on a bit lately. They don't make the razors any more, but you can get them cheap online or at antique stores. Injectors are harder to get inexpensively, but many of them are first rate shavers.
Perhaps a battery powered reel razor like the old push lawn mowers. I can see it now - "Engineering excellence in a human-powered implement. Light and easy to push or pull. Long lasting flame-hardened blade system." I agree with Pauldog, a DE or an injector would be a good choice.
Seriously, I liked my Fusion; it was a great razor. I don't miss it though, now that I've switched to DE and SE razors. They're much nicer and much more fun. The whole process is better now.
This forum is gonna be pretty biased....... but in this case it would behoove you to give it a shot. I have to shave EVERYDAY most of the time against the grain. My face looked like garbage before I switched. My face looks 1000 times better and feels amazing. Careful though its addictive!!!!!!
