I am in a raffle for one that will close out in the next few days, and there is a Wet Shavers meet in KC this weekend. Chances are good. My next purchase will be exhibit S for why I have spent the entire month on the couch.
May 27, 2016 It’s Hydro-Magic May! I’m spend the month with my three Schick Eversharp razors that sport the Hydro-Magic shaving/cleansing head - Types I2, J3, K1 Hot Shower Razor: 1958-1964 Schick Eversharp Type J3 "Golden 500" Blade: Schick (Dutch) (5) Soap: Route 66 Barbershop Hop Brush: Stirling Kong TSD Witch Hazel AS: Myrsol Blue 1-day growth, 2-pass shave - XTG, ATG I may have reached my limit on this blade, still had a nice shave though. I enjoyed the time I spent on the Focus this month, as I always do. I’m already thinking of next month already…and guess what? Another round of injectors! I figure I’ll be done with them all by the end of July and may be back to DEs in August? Cheers! RT
I'll have to find another supplier. Maggards only ships UPS or FedEx. That is to pricey when you has to cross the boarder. Still mulling over what Mongoose to get.
Ahh forgot your in Canada. Honestly seeing as you will already be paying out the nose I would just say get the Stainless Steel one.
Razor: Boker 387 Strop: Drygulch Horsehide/ linen Brush: Ubersoft 2 in Aluminum handle Soap: The Shave Den Iced Yin Yang (lime, lavender, menthol) Post: cold water, alum, witch hazel Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Yin Yang (lime, lavender, menthol) Good shave today. Just got this razor back from being restored. New horn scales with aluminum wedge. Two and a half passes, and DFS plus. Pretty smooth shaver. Lather was great, and just a nice shave.
Well it's more of an issue of time at this point, and the fact I made it through the Chosen Choosers twice with tomorrow's shave. Work is totally brutal this weekend so Sunday and Monday I will probably use a nice safe setup. Now, for Tuesday, when I"m off, and the last day of the month, I have one last MAYhem shave I have put together. I think you'll like it!
MAYhem 2016!! May 27 Razor - Soviet Mladost II Blade - (1) Brush - Marvy Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea, Nivea, Nivea,The Veg It's the @Joe Babb shave today and what a way to start the day. You rarely see me put the Gillette Rubie in the shave of the day slot and there's a reason for that. It sucks. Hate it. Now, in fairness, it's no way near being Tiger bad. Not even Blendax bad. Nor Flying Eagle bad. However, I would rate the Shark as a far superior blade. This wrapper looks a lot like the Rapira Platinum Lux. Mostochlegmash should sue Gillette for that. I had read at one point that Rubie was a brand used by Gillette to sell their defective and "seconds" off of the line. I can't confirm it, but it makes sense. Really rough and uncomfortable blade. The razor.....the Soviet Mladost II...."The Russian Butcher". Uneven blade gaps, vicious angles to hit at times and just a poorly engineered piece of, um, metal to hold the Rubie and scrape it along. The soap - My favorite! Mitchell's Wool Fat. Magnificent selection when you know how to lather it, which I do. It takes warm water, lots of warm water, a puck soak, a fairly dry brush.....oh, yeah....... The brush - The Marvy. Not my favorite. Short, stiff, cheap plastic handle, unable to really whip the Fat into shape so there goes that advantage. At least the lather I got didn't disappear like the Marvy soap. Overall effect? A shave I'd rather forget. Two nicks on the neck, lots of irritation for the Alum to grab and a horrible way to try and motivate for a big sales day. Fortunately the Veg was there to salvage things. I had forgotten all about the Rubie. I'll try to forget again immediately. Onward and forward to the @Linuxguile second round and the final Chosen Chooser shave for MAYhem. And, in keeping with the past 10 days or so, it's going to be, ummmmm, interesting. Blade - Baili Green Razor - Razo Rock TTO Soap - Williams Brush - VDH Boar This may be the first time I've been relieved to see Williams come up. Why? Because it's not Marvy! Hope you all have a safe and great holiday weekend.
Understandable. I say MAYhem was pretty successful all around. I am honestly looking forward to June.
Yes this year's MAYhem has been a roaring success. Lots more people found a way to join in in spite of being considered slightly off in the mental department. I may have award prizes for this year.
Silly question, but is the Tiger considered a "blued" blade? Could you use one to build a foxhole radio?
Saturday Focus Shave Usually when I shave with less than 24 hours between shaves I use mild DE or SE. Today with just 12 hours between shaves I decided to go with a straight. I am confident enough now that I can adjust the shave from wild to mild with a SR. Today is my Rasurpur Western grind kamisori. With less than 12 hours since my last shave I did just 3 passes. No blood, and a comfortable shave. Irritation A- Closeness A- Smoothness A Sharpness A
