1. The specimen 14's i've seen from Solingen (Herberz, Henckels, some others) have some esoteric aesthetic differences from the classic Spanish 14's. Tong wars have been fought over the assertion by some that all of the "14" stamped straights were products of the Herkenrath forge in Solingen. It would be interesting to see some of the old Herkenrath forgings as they appeared when delivered to the razor manufacturers, before the grinders did their work.Do you suppose it's possible that Herkenrath was indeed the supplier of all of the "14" blanks, and the aesthetic differences between the Spanish and German varieties are simply due to the regional preferences and tastes of the respective grinders?

A link to Herkenrath forgings of today: http://www.hugo-herkenrath.de/en/razorblanks.php?page=rasiermesser

I don't think I've seen a "Palmera" that wasn't the classic Juan Vollmer Spanish variety.

  5. Mr.Rollah, you are a great photographer. I never realized how hard it is to take a good looking picture until I started trying to take pictures of my razors. Your pictures are so well composed and have a "warm" feel to them but are not dark. Kudos...

  8. I'm working from home today, so I got an SR shave in this morning. A fine shave it was! I used my Engstrom frameback.

  10. Thank you! :o Since the shots are usually an early morning daily set-up, I try for repeatability and consistency. Simple set-ups lead to predictable results—and can be done fairly quickly and painlessly.

Early morning shave with my new favorite: vintage King Pelican 14. :love055:

  11. Getting closer to the razor and getting sharp focus make for good images. Your shots are good examples of this and for us to follow.

  17. Sadly for "Lunatic Who Resembles Rasputin", I noticed on a different board that an idiot sociopath was also using it. Having no desire to be confused for this person, was compelled to make the change. After all, I myself am a high-functioning psychotic and could not abide the confusion.
