1. I actually got good shaves from carts. I wanted craftsmanship. I like using a well made tool rather than plastic.
As an aside, I was in a Costco last weekend and the Gillette Fusion blades were $65.00 CDN for twenty. After using DEs for two years, that seems so expensive.
  2. I probably would still be using cartridges if they didn't cost so much. I just don't think they're worth price I'm asked to pay. My 34c cost on sale $25, which was the same as a package of cartridges I would later throw out.
There is nothing wrong with cartridges.

  3. I hate carts. Can't stand 'em. Will never go back.
That said, my motto here is and always will be - It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.

  4. Remember, the saying I've heard on TSD had been, "It's your shave, do what you want, do what works for you.". So cart users aren't wrong and DE/SE users aren't wrong either.

  5. What's up with electric shavers? It's so simple, no brush, no soap, no canned goo, just shave and run! Can't be a better way.

Also...I can't see leaving my middle grandson a collection of Atras and Fusions. No class, no style.

  8. Well at least I got some action on this sub forum, even if there were a few Red Herrings like microwaves and airline food (really?) thrown in for lack of a better argument. In my 50+ years of shaving I've used about everything except a straight, I'm not crazy, and with the exception of electrics I get very good shaves from all of them. I figure if I can get as good a shave from a cart as any other tool why waste my time futzing around. For those who assume cart users all use some canned goop, you're very wrong. I happen to use a RazoRock Plissoft synthetic and mug soap.
  9. Incrementalism for the win! If you use a better soap & pre or post shave care your choice of beard reduction is not up for debate. It's your choice, just like those lumberjack bearded hipsters. No one's saying you're wrong for using a cart, but some of us may let slip our self restraint and proselytize so that cart users might come to the True Shave.

  12. My problem with carts is not so much the cart itself but more the massive pricetag and the ridiculous marketing behind it making people believe it's the next best thing.

I myself use a Gillette Guard from time to time with great results.

Whatever works for you, use it.

It's your sha... Wait that's not my line? :D
  13. The Gillette Guard cart doesn't fill with whiskers, needs very little water, cost 27¢, last 2-3 months, is faster than any other razor, and gives a great shave.
My Grand Niece says she likes her five blade cart at $1.50 better, but agrees it's great. Half the folks I give one to for gifts are hooked.
P & G will only sell these in low income countries, where they are trying to kill DEs by selling them at 5¢.

  14. Lasts what? I get 2, max 3, comfortable shaves from one Guard cart.
  15. We are back to "your mileage my vary". I have a friend that gets a year of daily shaves from a Gillette Good News, hard to believe, but I know he's honest. Of the ten or so folks I have gifted a "Guard", two to three months is average for a cart. If you go to world wide reviews of the Guard on the internet, you'll see the same thing.
  16. I'm stunned. No less.

I'll try a fresh cart next time and see how long it lasts.

Perhaps my poor mileage is because there's so long time between my uses that the edge deteriates over time?

  17. Personna twin blade carts don't cost more than some DE blades.

Cost is only an issue if you insist on modern cartridges.

  18. $28 for 24 carts each lasting at least twice as long as a DE or SE blade is expensive!

  19. Do you also use them to scrape paint between shaves? Your numbers are way off the generally reported usage even for no name carts.
