  1. Some days you bite the bullet. This was one of them. :scared003:

A month or two ago I got my grandpa's straights professionally honed. I put his most used one to the test today. Yeah, can't say much good I am afraid. Tuggy and it left me with blood dripping in a number of places. After working with the SE wedges I thought my technique would be at least close to competent. To check it out I tried out the other straight I have from my Grandpa and it was like night and day. So, I've concluded that the honemeister didn't know how to work with a blade with spine wear from years of honing. :angry032:

It wasn't a total loss. I had my trusty Eddison Floating Head as the back up razor as I was not planning on doing more than WTG with the straight. It's paired with a NOS Personna II twin and shaved like pure heaven. :happy036:

  9. A very, very good SOTD this morning sporting the Rocnel SE50 and Wickham's soon-to-be-released 1912 line.
Soap: I used the "Cashmere" - a great 'grown-up, deep scent' that performed amazingly well. Thick, slick lather and oh, that scent.
Razor: The Rocnel SE50 is a rather mild yet effective SE razor that I really enjoyed. If you think the Mongoose/Classic Shaving razors are too aggressive this one might be for you.

    Dove Men Face Wash
    TSD Iced Lime
    Jayaruh #77 Synthetic
    Bunny V-3
    Schick Injector
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayers Rose Petal WH
    Pinaud Clubman

The TSD Iced Lime Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #77 Synthetic brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Bunny V-3 razor with a Schick Stainless Injector blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse and alum block, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Pinaud Clubman After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  16. I have a 208 Gold Dollar 6/8th & its a Very Robust SR..They are Harder Carbon Steel than Most Vintage Razors..I find that they Require a Tad more Stropping than Vintage Razors...I have had more Shaves than I Care to Remember with it & I have only Ever Refreshed it Once on Chromium Oxide ..It Still has a Very Keen Edge..:)

  17. SHAVE OF THE DAY
    20160614_191723.jpg

    Prep: gustafsons woodlands
    Razor: Gillette Tech/Somerset
    Blade: Viking Sword (2nd shave)
    Brush: Fine Angel Hair Synthetc

Lather: KMF Peaceful Patchouli/ Godrej Menthol
    Post: Thayers Peach witch hazel
    Balm: Reef Point Dragons Blood

2 pass shave today, decided to mix two creams together to make menthol patchouli. Lather was super slick and abundant, the creams mixed well together. The blade was much smoother this time around. Got a little irritation on the neck, but not a bad shave overall. Hope everyone had a great shave!
