We actually have the genealogy to about 1100AD in Scotland, Wales and England. Most people of Scottish ancestry have Scandinavian blood by default, through the Viking settlement in the Hebrides and the North coast.
Yes, I figured that's where the Scandinavian blood came from. There is also some Norman blood there as some say Morris is a form of Maurice. But as they say, the Normans came to Ireland and soon became more Irish than the Irish.
Congrats on your start with straights! Stay with the positive attitude and healthy respect for the blade and you will get it down quicker than you think.
June Focus Day 21: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stirling Bay Rum SS Rolls Razor Stirling Unscented PSB CC Bay Rum AS Another great shave with this razor. After 5 shaves with it, I am ready to say I should have tried it much earlier. I would definitely recommend one to anyone who is considering getting one. Bay Rum also helps to get me moving in morning, so I am primed for a good day at work. I hope everyone has a great day.
Back to the grind and it's going to be triple digit heat today. Welcome to summer with a vengeance. Shave is in with the Rabbit, report later this evening. Stay cool and have a great day!
I am Scottish, Welsh, and Irish. The only thing my ancestors agreed on was that we didn't like the English. I have worn my kilt with the correct tartan in public, with cowboy boots. Have to be true to your roots.
Stirling Finest Badger Focus The brush did another wonderful job today. I switched to my Grand Shave King and a Rapira Platinum Lux blade and was disappointed with the shave. It took a lot of work to get a DFS. I'm going to load this blade in my Big Fellow tomorrow for comparison to see if it was the blade or the aggressiveness of the razor. Unfortunately, this was pre cell phone, so there is no evidence. One other thought, for you aspiring Celtic warriors. Kilts and Motorcycles are a bad combination.
June 22, 2016 Focusing on my Schick Type L (L1 and L7) this month using a variety of blades. On the road using my H2 travel razor. A great one-pass ATG shave. This shave was brought in part by the fantastic shave I had yesterday with my Schick L1 and a NOS Schick Twin blade. Growth this morning noticeably lighter than ever. The L1 / Twin combo is proof that shaving fans do not have to spend big money in their hunt for perfection. Cheers! RT
SOTD June 22, 2016 Injector/SE Focus Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Bunny V2 courtesy of @twhite Brush: Semogue 1520 boar Lather: Ginger's Garden Salty Mariner Post: Witch hazel splash, Fine Platinum, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, XTG Nice inaugural shave with the Bunny V2 razor. Beautiful craftmanship in the razor - I'm very impressed. The Ginger's Garden soap provided tons of beautiful lather. I struggled with the handle angle on this first attempt. I ended up with some redness on my neck because the angle was off. I'm sure I'll improve as a I get a few more shaves in. Overall I was pleased with the shave and humbled to be able to try it. Have a great day!
Congrats on being in line to Beta test Tom's cool tool. Most of us that have used the B-V3. A series of unfortunate events put you using the B-V2. Same head, different handle.
Jolly Good June! June 22 Razor - W.B. Speed Rabbit Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Cold rinse, Alum, The Veg Back to the focus today after a tryout of the Swan. Thought about giving it a second day but I was a bit behind on time so didn't want to take the time to get a DFS out of it. I'm sure it's capable, just not sure how much extra time might be necessary. Using the W.B. Speed Rabbit this week. This is the first TSR I learned with and it's a very nice razor. 5/8 hollow grind and light and easy to maneuver. After using the heavier and bigger GD 800 this should feel like a Ferrari after a Hummer. The Fat and BoS for lather and it was great as usual. Took a couple of strokes to renew the feeling and grip for the Rabbit. It very quickly became familiar and the difference in it and the GD 800 while there weren't so great as to need a lot of adjustment. Two passes and I had a near BBS. I had lost the angle just a bit on my neck leaving a patch that needed to be touched up. Did that and had BBS, or the next best thing. Called it good. Alum was just a bit hot on my neck but I expected that. Seems like when I go for touch ups with a straight I always end up a bit irritated. That's why I need to get good enough to skip touch ups! Hot as you know what here today. I think the Mississippi is boiling off. Stay cool!
Tonight's shave was very special for me thanks to Bama Samurai. He provided me with a great Soap, Arko which preformed better than any stick I have tried. Also tonight for the very first time I have been Chosen! That's right I used the Veg and am loving it, can't see my den without it anymore! So here it goes: SOTD 6/22/16 Pre: Shower, Nivea face wash Razor: Gillette Fat Boy Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock super stainless Brush: TGN Finest Soap: Arko stick Post: Cold water rinse, Maggard alum, witch hazel, The Veg! Tonight I got my shower, dried off and got prepared for a special shave using Arko and the Veg. I didn't know what to expect out of either but was very happy at the end with a very smooth BBS shave. I rewet my face with warm water and applied the Arko stick and went for my first pass WTG and got good beard reduction. I then rinsed my face, and felt of it and was still really slick so I lathered once again for my second pass XTG and got great beard reduction. Rinsed off my face once more for the third ATG pass and was amazed with the shave. I noticed a tiny bit of stubble left on my neck and decided to try and knock that down without leathering again, it was so slick had no problems and got no irritation. Once again the shave gods smiled on me with a BBS shave, I was dolphin smooth which also presented a small problem for my post shave. I was so smooth that I had trouble running my alum across my face, had to keep rewetting it multiple times to get everything covered. I rinsed that off and went to apply the witch hazel which again gave problems because I had such a close shave I had to literally splash it on because my cheeks were so smooth. I then reached for the Veg and put a little in my hand, rubbed my hands together and applied the Veg! It took a minute for it to soak in and then ahhh, the smell was great! I was chosen, and was elated that it worked out for me. A special thanks to Bama Samurai for providing tonight's wonderful BBS shave and the Veg!
