Stirling Finest Badger Focus I switched the Rapira Platinum Lux blade over to my Big Fellow to get an accurate comparison to the other Russian blades I've tried this month. This is a nice blade. I'm still BBS three hours later. Opened a new Route 66 sample today. Wonderful performance but the scent doesn't knock Sweeney Todd off of the top of my list. Route 66 Bourbon Jungle Stirling Finest Badger Gillette Big Fellow Rapira Platinum Lux (2) Alum Lucky Tiger Ogallala Bay Rum Have fun!
Arko to me is a great soap. Slick and cushy but the post shave is just a bit dry. The Veg has a love hate relationship with me. If I'm well it chooses me but if I have any sort of infection or wild blood sugar or anything wrong then its straight cat spray. I have to use caution with the power of the Veg.
CJB/Kai (1) Stirling 24mm Finest 2 Band MdC Thayers The Veg Lovely shave today. Just looking at the MdC it lathered itself.... ok not really.... 10 second load gave me enough lather for my regular 4 pass shave. 4 passes later and I reeled the baby in. No nicks or irritation. The Thayers felt refreshing and after a cold water rinse I splashed on a big handful of The Veg.
SOTD June 23, 2016 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Bunny V2 Brush: Semogue 1520 boar Lather: Ginger's Garden Salty Mariner Post: Witch hazel splash, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, XTG (upper face only), WTG and touch-up on neck Pretty good shave with the Bunny V2. I struggled again with the blade angle on my neck. This caused a little irritation again that calmed down with the Nivea balm. The Ginger's Garden lather was thick and rich - beautiful stuff. My upper face is pretty smooth but I have some stubble in hard to reach areas. The larger head of the Bunny makes the small areas harder to clean up. But overall good shave. Have a great day!
Razor: AlumiGoose 2 w/ Hempel Handle Blade: Feather Professional (5) Brush: Rubberset Aluminum 400 #3 Soap: Eufros Tierra Humeda A/S: Folsom & Co. Capri A little earlier today as I have a meeting tonight at 6:30 PM and a golf tournament tomorrow. Back with another SE shave. Very near BBS shave today with these fine shaving product. The #3 whipped up a great lather tonight and the feed back from the AlumiGoose and Feather Pro was great. Finished with the Folsom Co. Capri and I'm ready to go. Have a great night everyone. TGIF tomorrow.
As I said at the beginning of the month, I would be interrupting my straight focus to test the Supply Provision Single Edge. If you've read the thread you know that after a couple of shaves, well, you win some you lose some. However, my Father's Day treat arrived today. An Above The Tie S1 slant. Ain't she purdy? I lathered up some Stirling MITA with the Kong and loaded a Perma-Sharp Super. It felt so good I added an extra XTG pass in the opposite direction to my usual 3 pass shave. Did a little touch up around the Adam's apple, and finished off with a cold rinse. Alum barely whispered on the neck, and a splash of MITA Witch Hazel and Aloe left me feeling great. I have to put this in my top 5 shaves. Not bad for first use of a razor. Looking forward to doing some blade trials to see if I can make his beauty even better.
Straight focus with PRC Damascus 7/8 Yesterday I did a 'reference' shave with my 2011 R41 so I can compare my progress with SRs. My PRC Damascus is one of my top shaving razors along with my other PRCs and Dovos. I guess the razor felt the championship was on the line today. The edge was very comfortable and smooth, 4 passes with no blood and no irritation. Finished BBS, a fantastic shave but still just short of what the 2011 R41 can deliver... the good news I am getting closer. Irritation A+ Closeness A Smoothness A+ Sharpness A
A few question about slants - Your photo shows you holding the razor in your left hand. I assume using right hand to take the picture. Do all slants have the same slant; from high/ left to low/ right? Is there a Left Handed version? When shaving with one does this give the effect I get when doing the Gillette slide? Or is there something else going on there?
Most slants I'm familiar with are high left to low right, but it doesn't affect the shave whichever hand you use. I'm left handed, but switch hands when shaving XTG & ATG on the right side of my face. It does mimic the action of the Gillette slide. Think of it as the difference between a Scottish maiden and a guillotene. The slant allows the blade to slice as opposed to chopping the whiskers. It really helps with heavy growth, i.e. several days worth and also in my case where the hair on the neck is swirly and hard to map the grain. The one exception to this that I have experience with is the Shavecraft 102 slant. It doesn't twist the blade like most slants do. It is designed so that the head sits on the handle at a tilt. It's a good shaver if you really pay attention to what your doing, but I find myself unconsciously adjusting for the tilt, thus negating the whole purpose. With the ATT and Merkur Sledgehammer, you just shave normally, and the head does the work for you.
Jolly Good June! June 23 Razor - W.B. Speed Rabbit Soap - Tabac Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Cold rinse, Alum, The Veg Long day but it paid off. Slow day until ten minutes to close and the customer with all the money walked in. I stayed an hour and a half late to make sure we got it all. Cha-ching!!! Day started good with the Rabbit. Tabac and the Wolf for a good lather and the Rabbit was as efficient as ever. I stropped last night before going to bed so I didn't have to take the time for that this morning. Smooth shave and two passes to a near BBS. No touch up since I didn't think I needed to be any prettier. In fact, it's hard to get prettier. @Mr. Freeze93 isn't the only who looks good in a baby blue dress around here. Hope you all had a great day. Friday is an hour away so here comes your weekend again. This week is going by fast!
I got in real late tonight and was tired so I didn't use the SR razor tonight. SOTD 2/23/16 Pre: no pre tonight I had a shower earlier before going out. Razor: Gillette Slim (3) Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum (Blue Pack) (1) Brush: TGN Finest Soap: Arko Post: cold water rinse, Maggard Alum, witch hazel, The Veg Tonight was a short shave cause I got in so late and was tired so I didn't grab my SR tonight as I planned. I only did a 2 pass shave tonight, first pass was WTG which gave me good beard reduction, so I decided to just do a 2 pass tonight. Second pass was XTG and that gave good beard reduction also, so much so I decided to just stop right there for the night. Did a cold water rinse, applied my alum which gave me no feedback what so ever. Splashed on a little witch hazel and then grabbed the Veg to finish it off. I got a really good shave tonight and was pleased with it, enjoying the smell of The Veg as I sit here and type. I know the Veg is not for everyone and some think it smells bad, but who ever says it smells like cat urine has never been around a cat or smelled cat urine. I like the stuff and am going to try and keep some in my den all the time! Once again I'd like to say a special thanks to Clint64 for my brush, NCoxSTL for the blade and last but never least Bama Samurai for the soap and Veg for tonight's shave!
I enjoy hearing about when "It takes a Village to Shave a Man." I've had several like that, too. I was going to wait until tomorrow morning, but I think I hear my den calling me...
