    Love that blade. Classic.

I feel like the slant is a mechanical way of achieving a scything cut (a la Gillette Slide) while allowing the user to use linear strokes. Curving either blade or stroke has the same effect when the bevel hits the hair shafts. It Slices...

Edit: this is also why guillotine blades were angled. It presents a longer blade edge moving across the target surface, ensuring a clean decapitation.

And as all experts attest, neglecting the Veg would have likely meant going home on time. Sounds like a totally routine shave of excellence. Nice work!

Yes, no doubt the Veg is still the key to such success. I won't try selling without it!

No seriously, what's your top blade label? I really like GSB, it's my only blade I keep in reserve supply.

I never used GSB until recently when I tried them in my R41 and had very good results. I picked up the Perma-Sharp Supers a few days ago and wanted to try them and they also did very well. Usually Voskhods and Gillette Yellows are my go-to choices.

    Leopard Week

First a pic of a large (indeterminate type, likely a "great horned") Owl in a territorial standoff, on my neighbor's roof, with two upset Jays. Fun huh? Owls look cuddly, but they have talons like Eagles, and are extremely violent and capable hunters. Fierce birds with few natural enemies.

About five minutes after this pic. He flew off the vent pipe and swooped down toward me, passing over my head by ten feet. I could tell that he was locked on to something. His next move was smashing a small prairie hare just along the property line, picking up a little take out for the flight back to his home in the oaks along the river. I see Owls, Red Hawks, Prairie Falcons and Bald Eagles with some regularity around my home. If you've never seen large birds work prey up close, trust me, it's scary fast, and quite impressive.

I am putting a new blade in tomorrow. Today was not as great, some tiny mustache weepers, but oddly little irritation. The weight and balance are different than SR, even if angle is similar. Still finding optimal pressure. Gonna step it up to Voskhod. What's the worst that could happen? Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a fabulous Friday!

Well with Voskhod you will have the best shave yet! I love the birds of prey. I grew up on the farm with owls and hawks. Amazing hunters. Eagles I experienced when I moved to Missouri. I've always loved owls though especially. They look rather kooky and seem a bit odd but, as you said, they are deadly and violent hunters.

    Jolly Good June

    Rule the Brush; TBS Synthetic
    Focus the Soap; SV Dolomiti
    Razor; Rotbart 100 & Voskhod
Post care; Alum block & The Veg

Leaving a triple milled soap in an airtight dish hydrates and allows for better loading. I'm not sure about long term consequences, but short term it helps me. Quick loading on my synthetic. Quick lathering in the suribachi bowl. I did a warm towel for just seconds because it's just too hot. Plenty of prep for the humidity around this swamp. The Rotbart 3pc loaded with a Voskhod serves up drama free mild moment of Zen. The actual 3 pass shave surely took 5 minutes or more. It was over before I knew it. Cool water rinse & alum swipe, dry off and a splash of Ed Pinaud's finest left me CCS with no burn.

While the Lilac Vegetal came from a local shop, the rest of the shave provided by a generous PIF from @Marverel . I'm not sure where I picked up the Voskhods. I think a 100 blade purchase is in my future. The Cartel has my attention, and soon my money.

Very cool about the Voskhod! You won't be sorry. It's a top tier blade in terms of sharp versus smooth. I consider it equivalent in every way to my beloved GSB.

My neighborhood is full of mature trees. Pecan and live oaks, magnolia and camphor, down to fig, mulberry, persimmon and others. In the fading twilight hours after traffic gets sparse I hear owls calling to each other. I've tried to photograph them but in the shadows without a telephoto lens it's just a dark blur. I hope they get their fill of squirrels. I don't have the patients to sit with a BB gun like my grandfather. I get less pecans and figs than he did. And less squirrel in brown gravy over rice.

I sit out on the porch most evenings and listen to the barred owls calling each other, and occasionally see one fly over from the woods behind the house heading for the river.

    June Focus Day 23:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Arko
    Injector Type J
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Aqua Velva Musk

Just a great shave this morning with the Type J. The Arko was nice and slick, and I made quick work of my whiskers. I ended with a DFS capped by some Aqua Velva Musk. I am looking forward to this Friday, and I hope everyone has a great day.

Well that seemed like a short night. Guess when you eat dinner at 10:15pm it makes it that way. Shave is done, nothing major, solid result and the Veg is on to lead the way again! Talk to you all later.

well my current Favorite blades are Sharp Star, Voskhod, Gillette 7 O'clock super stainless, GSB, once the sharp star blades are gone and I can't get anymore the Voskhod's will make it back to the top of the list.
