July Leopard Blade Trials
Back for July, with a Leopard in tow, and will simply be running different blade brands. I feel like that 90% of them will be just fine in a shavette.
First of all, let's toss our blade notions. A shavette is nothing like a DE razor, though it uses DE blades. My test is all about the edge. People use DE blades in many different configurations. These all affect performance. A shavette uses a half DE blade, no flex, no tension, and completely rigid. All of my blade preferences are wiped clean for this test, because I've never used the blades this way before. All shaves are cold water, two passes, looking for the automatic DFS. Drug store product stuff this month for scientific consistency.
I will be keeping a shavette blade log soon (on another thread for brevity), and Voskhod, Derby, and ASCO Orange SS have all made the cut. ASCO and Voskhod lead the way so far.
I will start of by saying that I've had my two worst days since starting SR style shaving with this blade. It's rough in a shavette. And crazy sharp. I've caught my skin three times in two days. It's almost as if this bevel tends to grab and bite. I was hoping it would be like Feather and smooth out today, and while it may have a bit, I am not happy with the performance. This blade is going to be rated a fail. It's too rough and unforgiving compared to SR, and is temperamental with regard to attack angle, making it prone to bite in shavette configuration. Four hours after the shave, I am pretty smooth, but the jawline and neck are a little warm.
Glad to see everyone back. Have a Happy Holiday weekend! And remember, be good...or be good at it. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.
Have a super Saturday!
