First I cannot figure where to put this so, if there is a moderator listening please move this. I live in the PDX and for those that visit or live here, these are the places that you can get some swag while you are in town. There is Em's place she sells lots of stuff and is on the coast. Mario's sells high end suits and Trumper's line, the downtown store has the best selection. The others are slightly limited. Excaliber Cutlery in the Various malls sell Merkur blades and razors and Trumpers as well. The one in Lloyd center sharpens str8s by hand but I have not used them. Portland Cutlery sells Merkur razors and blades and straight supplies. Nordstrom sells AOS and a host of other wet supplies. The downtown one sells the most. Saks sells AOS and a few others downtown. UnderU for men sells some E-shave stuff, I was not impressed. There was a store around 10th or 11th and the max line that sold Trufitt but they discontinued it because it did not sell. They may pick up other stuff. Target sells Old Spice. RiteAid selection varies by location. The one downtown sells a good selection of Old Spice but no blades. But the one in Beaverton sells Gillette blades, red pack and a lot of other good stuff. Have not shopped at Walgreens. Fred Meyer, aka Kroger, sells some stuff but is varied. The one in Beaverton/Aloha (A Low ah) sells bottom line Personnas and Gem Blue blade single edge and Old Spice. Sallys Beauty Supplie sells Personna middle grade. Macy's sells some stuff but I was not impressed and can't remember what it is. Good girl Bad Boy? in the Pioneer Square Mall sells Pre-De Provance and their house brand. Smells ok, never used it. Bath and Body, Bigelow and the other multicolored line. Aveda sells some stuff never looked hard but I know it is there. There is always, L'occitane, but I hear they may be discontinuing the Vetivyyr line. The alternative markets, Whole Foods and the like, sell some stuff too like WitchHazels and KMF and Burts Bees and Midnight Cowboy. Post your city stuff, or for all I know this is already here. Cheers
PDX is the airport code for Portland, OR. It is sorta informal slang to differentiate from Portland, Maine. Our sister city? I know our name was decided by two guys and a coin flip. But I cannot remember what the other name was. And thanks for the appreciation.
Forgot one important one or rather two. The Portland Saturday and Sunday Market sells various handmade soaps that may be useful for shaving. They also sell hand thrown pottery that is suitable for shave mugs etc. The Saturday Market is an artisan event that is a great way to spend a day. The second is Voodoo doughnuts. While not a wet shaving mecca. They use the familiar Dunkin' Doughnuts Recipes for there creations. The best one is the cereal doughnut. Yes they take a regular doughnut and dip in white frosting and dip in a combination of fruit loops and captain crunch. Yes it is that good. The other that is good is the chocolate doughnut dipped in chocolate and dipped in cocoa puffs. They also teach Swahili and are allowed to marry persons of legal age. Decadence comes in many forms.
Voodoo doughnuts :drool I am now kicking myself for not steping in there eariler today while I was down the street from them.
I was wondering what PDX stands for. I'm looking at optometry schools over there on the coast. Mainly Pacific University.
It is the best school in the area for that specialty. They have an on campus office where the students run it and they have a similar one downtown. Expensive as heck. They have a heavy Hawiian population and the food reflects it. (I used to work in the kitchen there). Also the food is expensive and a lot of the students, when I worked there, complained that they did not get enough to eat. Also it is in a very small town way outside of PDX. You will need a car or take the 57 into Hillsboro to pick up the light rail into downtown at least an hour each way.
wow. voodoo doughnuts sounds great. I was just down there and would have loved to check it out. I couldn't believe how happening the pearl district was.
Hey there Single Wedge. Which RideAid specifically were you refering to? Google maps shows 4 in Beaverton. The Fred Meyer in Beaverton near 217 between Canyon and Beaverton-Hillsdale sells Kroger branded double edge blades and Red Personna single edge. The Safeway on south Boones-Ferry (near Bridgeport Village, the other side of I-5) doesn't carry single or double edge blades, nor anything other than canned goo. They have Nivea balms, though.
There is a Riteaid off of Farmington near 185th that sells great shaving stuff, Gillette Red pack, Personna, Injector, Brut, OS, AV, etc... Best place to buy stuff local YMMV. The Freddies near 205 in Beaverton sells Personna Injectors and Personna DEs. Both Carry the VDH line of soaps and brushes.
