I wanted to try my newly finished short handled GEM 1912 this morning. I took the blade out of my long handle, lathered up a thick bowl of Stirling (It was 4 am and already 93°, menthol was needed) and started my pass. It started great, sounded like a knife buttering toast but quickly silenced. I looked and the blade had slid back off the stops. I repositioned it and tried again and again it slid back. The only difference I can see from my long handle is that the long handle snaps shut with more force. I switched to it and had a wonderful shave, three passes and I'm dolphin smooth. I finished with my new favorite combo of Osage Rub and bombed Florida Water.

If anyone has a suggestion to how I can fix the problem of the blade sliding back I would greatly appreciate it. Have a great day folks!

I've got that same razor, and haven't had any problems with blade slippage. Weak springs, maybe?

That's what came to mind when I read that too.

Is there any way to fix/adjust the springs?

Has it become detached from the top plate. It is supposed to pass through the aperture on the top plate from its mounting position on the back plate which secures the Razor Head to the Handle.

Sounds like the spring is hosed on your 1912. Unfortunately this is fairly common. Take a look with a blade loaded. The spring should protrude slightly through the square hole in the cap, and there should be a gap between the spring and the front edge of the square hole, as in the picture below.



The gap may not be as big as with this particular 1912, but you should definitely be able to see daylight between the spring and the edge of the square hole. You can also look from the back and you should see the spring pressing firmly against the back of the spine of the blade. The blade should be firmly against the stops and you should not be able to move it with a fingernail or toothpick.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to repair this.

All the PAL IM talk and @Robyflexx 's picture today got me thinking about a beautiful cased PAL IM I've been holding onto. It's almost too stunning to use. Almost. Today was the day.

First pass was good but left me unimpressed. I remember thinking how much better and smoother my C3 was a couple of days ago. Hmmm, maybe @birdlives is onto something about the C3 being a contender for top of the list... Second pass put the doubts to rest. I could have just gone for touch ups at that point but went for the 3rd pass ATG to ensure that 36 hour clean-face look. Wow, no drama. No nicks, cuts, no weepers. Most of all, no stubble. Anywhere.

Sitting here with that treasured dolphin smooth, face rubbing goodness that I keep checking.

I do have to say that the C3 was actually a smoother experience but I think it's a safe bet the shave from the PAL IM will last longer. Tomorrow will tell.

Sorry for a short report tonight, I'm getting really tired. Three passes tonight, WTG, XTG, ATG for a nice almost BBS shave. Followed up with my cold water rinse, and the alum. Splashed on the witch hazel and let it dry, then went with the Gillette aftershave balm and that was that, LOL. A nice quick shave that did give me a little irritation on my neck but nothing bad. Hope everyone had a Great shave today!

A very relaxing shave today with the Schick Adj. injector razor. Route 66 soap provides excellent sweet scented voluminous lather. Three passes and I am smooth and refreshed. Have a great weekend friends.

A Vulfix shave today, and it was a good one. This was my first use with the Vulfix lavender cream that I won in a PIF recently. The smell is strong and something akin to a cleaning agent more than lavender. Not sure about the scent all that much but went with it nonetheless. Swirled my Vulfix badger around about four times and went to the face. The lather was fantastic! Thick. rich, slick, and stable.

WTG pass with the Schick G1 went well. No problems or nicks and the reduction was good. Went ahead with a second XTG pass (nose to ear). Good reduction and nice result in the end - smooth, close shave.

A witch hazel splash was followed by a new after shave to me - Ellington's Wide Eyed Whiskey Cider. It smells of cinnamon and apple cider vinegar. Very interesting. The smell isn't too strong. Nivea balm topped it all off.
