Yes, samples are great to add! I included a Maggards sample of Northern Moss in the first box. Glad to have you join in!
Another shave done. This time I used: Soap- Micky Ice Soapworks: La Belle du Suds. Razors- Two honed today Kamisori razors(I'm learning) Brush- Zenith aluminum handled boar brush. Aftershave- Vintage Shulton Old Spice Results: this soap is more floral than the others I tried, but not too much. The wife likes the scent. The soap lathers alright, but not great. This didn't matter, because it was very slick. It's a very good shave soap that works well, it is just not my type of scent, but my wife might want it. Hmmm, dilemma. Snag the soap I like, and disappoint @Straight razor dandy , or make the wife and @Straight razor dandy happy and choose the "La Belle du Suds"? Decisions decisions decisions.
Here is our current list of participants again: 1. dustmite (enjoyed the box) 2. twhite (enjoyed the box) 3. DaltonGang (currently has the box) 4. Hank 5. Straight razor dandy 6. IDuck 7. old-school shaver 8. zoltetov 9. whiteboy_cannon 10. bcannon87 11. NickMach007 I'm pleased everyone is communicating about their likes and dislikes, their choices, their preferences, and their desire to make this is worthwhile and fun activitiy. At this point I am going to CLOSE this pass-around to future entrants. After NickMach007 enjoys the soaps the box will come back to me. I will sample some soaps and try them out as you are doing. Then I'll plan to open it back up and start Soap Pass-around Volume 2. You can enlist again if you want to keep sampling the goods. Therefore this list is set and further entries are CLOSED until Volume 2 comes around!
Shave #5 Razor- Gillette Fat Boy Blade- Gillette 7 O'clock Yellow(17 shaves on it now) Brush- Burma Shave Boar Soaps- Northern Moss - Tennessee Whiskers Aftershave- Vintage Shulton made Old Spice(the wifey really likes it) Northern Moss: To begin with, I started as usual, and loaded the brush with the Northern Moss soap. It face lathered really well, and quickly. Since I haven't used it before , I tested the slickness while it was on the cheek. I pressed on my cheek with my finger and gave it a swipe. Whoops, not slick. I loaded the brush with some more soap, and lathered again. No go. I put some on the fingers and rubbed. Squeaky feeling. No way was I shaving with it. I rinsed it off, and enjoyed a nice tingling of what I think is menthol. Not a bad smelling scent. Too bad about the slickness. Tennessee Whiskers: Same routine as above, but different results. Nice slick lather, but an odd smell. It reminded me of something that I couldn't quite remember, until the second pass. My grandfather's tool shed. I hadn't smelled it since he passed away 28 years ago. His shed was made of cedar and had a lot of musty tools and other items inside. It was a manly scent, but not for me. I love most sandalwood scents, but apparently not cedar wood. I had a great shave with this soap, and would highly recommend this to cedar wood lovers. .
Shave#6 Soap- Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush- Semogue 1800 Razors- Wade & Butcher straight and a Unmarked Gold Dollar straight. Both freshly honed and stropped. Aftershave- Vintage Avon Spicy Results: Mitchell's Wool Fat was easy to load and face lather. Very slick and fluffy soap, that is very hard to beat. The smell is a little muttony, but not off putting. Great shave with wonderful skin protection, both from the soap and aftershave. The MWF should be a must, on everyone's try list.
@DaltonGang Send me your address I have a sample of the belle de sud soap for your wife if you want it. That way you can keep the one you want. I'll also include a sample of Schone lavender and sage for her to try.
Thank you for the offer. I decided to leave the soap box alone, but I will be adding a couple of items. The box should be mailed out within the new couple of days.
The box is enroute to @Hank . A couple of shave creams were added. Nothing taken out. Thanks for the opportunity to try these new, to me, soaps. Enjoy guys.
Just a quick note to let you all know the box arrived this morning while I was in the middle of today's shave , so I haven't really had a chance to go through it yet.
