  1. I am totally in for drug store AS month.

Also (SE)ptember is an idea for the undecided.

And apologies for being so absent...

    I'm back.

  2. The "Denver special" at all the hipster places near the University is a point can of PBR and a neat Jim Beam, usually $5.
  3. Obviously St. Louis was never a big PBR town. We had another brewery here of some fame. It's still here, of course, but many of us prefer another true local brewery now, not the foreign owned megabrewery the other has become. I have drank a lot of PBR though, mainly in my youth and mainly because of the price at the time.
  4. Yesterday was a Hoken J West shoulder less and today a direct competitor, a Takehana Feon 172.

In appearances there is no contest, the Feon looks worlds better. On to the shave. Within the first pass it is clear that the Feon has a very smooth edge but is still very sharp. 4 passes and only the faintest reply from the alum and I finished BBS.

It is clear that not only will the Feon stay in the den but it solidified it's starter status. Comparing the the two it looks like the Hoken will be on the waiver wire soon.

  5. Mmm PBR, I'll take a PBR over Bud or a Miller any day

  6. I'm a beer snob, I drink one beer a night when I have one and it better be good. That being said, I drank my fair share of PBR in college, it was either that or Natural Light.
  7. I do live in the land of micro breweries and craft beer! My tastes in beer have evolved to the point where I can no longer stand most light lagers. Give me a Red, Wheat, Amber or Stout. Strangely I don't have much of a taste for Pale Ales.

  8. My fav STL beer is Schlafly Hefenweisen. Great wheat beer

  9. I love IPA's this time of year, stouts and bocks in the winter
  10. Red Dog. $9 for 12 long necks. Youth is wasted upon...

Two more great days from the GSB...I will try and stretch this one,out to the end of the month. The Fatboy is definitely a great TTO adjustable, but I just can't get it off nine! The Gillette Silver Blue was smooth, Arko was flawless, Veg--impeccable, alum was silent. The good news out on the prairie is that highs might only make the sixties by the weekend! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.
    Have a great Wednesday!

  12. Only beer I can say I enjoyed was Michelob Original. These days I'd prefer a hard cider. Woodchuck keeps coming up with interesting varieties. I'd prefer to share a bottle of Rex Goliath Moscato with a Lady.

  13. August Straight Razor Focus
I have had such good luck with my straights this week that I decided to get out the razor that was scratched me more than any other. Even though this spike point appears to be muted, it has left me with feral cat face more than once.
Today I managed a very nice shave with no wounds. It's fifteen hours later and my face is smoother than it was after my first straight shaves. It is so nice to be figuring out this beauty

  14. Kudos! Those tips are perilous, only adding to the thrill. Nice work.

  15. Thank you Chris. I'm so glad I joined the focus threads over a year ago. It has made a huge difference in my shaves.

    August Focus Day 17:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Route 66 Ghost Town
    Gem Junior Bar
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Proraso AS

I had a really fun shave this morning, which was the first with this razor. It definitely shaves a bit different than any of my other razors, as it has some noise feedback that is different and feels different. The angle is similar to a Schick Repeating Razor, but the razor doesn't have that heft. It may all be in my head, but it feels less rigid than any other razor I have tried. It felt like I had more feedback from the razor in my hand, which made the razor fun. I wouldn't quite rate this a DFS, but it was close. It was a comfortable shave that I capped off with some Proraso. I hope everyone has a great day!
  18. Thank you Keith!
  19. Thanks for the encouragement & guidance. I'm feeling more confident in my technique today.
  20. Day 5
AoS best badger brush (broken in)
    Proraso Green Shaving Soap Jar
    Gillette New Long Comb
    Astra Superior Platinum Blade.
    Alum
    Penaud Clubman After Shave

I woke up early and had a little extra time this morning so I spent a few extra minutes working on my technique. 2 passes today, one with the grain one across the grain. I lathered up and concentrated on riding the cap, but keeping a good angle of attack. On the first pass I goofed up around my lower lip. This typically would have been a nasty nick, but since I was riding the cap, no issues. Second pass, I took a even more time concentrating on blade angle. There was a little feedback on the alum on my neck, but nothing on my face. After splashing on some after shave, I ran my fingers across my face and neck finding that this was a very good shave. Not BBS, but very close and just fine for a Weds. morning.
