1. Can you clear coat these brushes, to preserve that shiny finish? If you have one, and I would love one, how often does it need to be cleaned and polished?

  2. I have heard the people clear coat the handle. But it can chip with time.

  3. Probably better than originally made, marvelous.

  4. I have just the handle part. I keep it shiny just by cleaning it after each use and drying it off. It is holding up pretty well. I have not had to polish it since I got it.

Here is my latest faux 400 in oak. The knot is just for show. I have a two band badger and an Omega 49 coming. One of those may end up in it.

  5. You can also use a Renaissance Wax that will keep in shiny for a long time.

  6. So very similar to an original in appearance. The flutes are slightly more shallow but with the crisp lines and high polish you have to look for it to tell the difference. I haven't gotten the ferrule to break loose on the R-400. I'm guessing the metal is thinner that Tom's B-400.

  8. 20 minute steam bath and a wine spritzer and she'll open up for you quicker than any girl at the "bunny ranch" ( the wine spritzer if for your significant other when they are wondering why you're using their good pot to cook a brush )
  9. I tried the steam bath first, no luck. I've tried putting the whole unit in the freezer, then dipping the ferrule in very hot water. Still stuck. Next option is invest in a pair of strap wrenches. All of $4.99 for the set at Harbor Freight.

No worries about getting fussed at for using the Wolfgang Puck SS pans. When the Ex-S.O. moved on, she left me all the kitchen gear. As it should be. I'm the better cook & I paid for the set.
  10. Lmao that's a great trade off .... I forgot to mention that after the steam bath I wrapped 4 rubber bands on the top and another 4 on the bottom to give me enough grip to dislodge it

  11. That's the idea with the strap wrenches. Rubber grip to avoid marring the metal plus handles to increase leverage. The knot is already loose in the ferrule, but I haven't gotten any movement at the threads. My father has accused me of being a "get a bigger hammer" type. I'm learning delayed gratification techniques.

  12. OK, Tom, my Omega 49 arrived today. It did not last long. It was a perfect fit after a little Dremel action. Finished 26x64.

That is super nice looking. I need to get my butt in gear and finish mine for the #49.

  14. Thanks, Tom. The 49 works very well in this handle. I am glad that you blazed the trail. It encouraged me to do the same.

  15. I am just completing this faux 400 for @bscarpenter , the Jayaruh #94, with a 24mm Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger.
