Welcome back buddy. I too have been away from the forum all summer. Between camping/fishing each weekend and a recent move I just haven't been online at all. Like you I have continued with great shaves, mostly with Schick razors.
I will likely get back to SOTD soon.

Great to see you back Roger, for awhile I was wondering if wildfire season was causing havoc for your and all the firefighters up there.

Wonderful shave with the Alumigoose this morning. This Figaro Monsieur Gold shave soap smells wonderful and produces a most excellent, bountiful, slippery lather and I recommend it. Three passes for a dolphin smooth and refreshing finish. Have a great day friends. :)

Second in my line up for SEptember is my Schick L-1. It did the job today of delivering a mighty fine shave.

    Blade: GEM Stainless
    Razor: GEM Featherweight
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with Barbasol Pacific Rush, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Fat Friday! Nice shave again with the Featherweight. I may not be quite as smooth as I was yesterday, but it still was a good shave. The areas right under my nostrils are a little tough to get with this razor - I need some more practice there. But otherwise all is well. Mitchell's provided great lather again as it does every Friday for me. The Barbasol after shave has a nice scent and is pretty loaded with menthol. I mix it with witch hazel because it would be pretty strong for me otherwise.

Shave well everyone and hope you have a great day!

Anybody have any experience with the Gillette Trac II Injector blades? I saw an auction of an unopened pack and am considering pulling the trigger.

Not great but still a better shave than yesterday. I broke out the Valet Autostrop strop and ran the razor and blade back and forth about 20x. I believe this is a milder razor than yesterday's but still a little rough. Don't know if it was the razor or the stropping of the blade today, but the Brut AS did not sting! Two passes, not BBS by any means, but still a fun shave.

Started the SEptember celebration with one of my favorite SE razors - the Schick C3. I've been working on my straight technique for most of the past month and the C3 was like magic. Super easy, fantastic reduction, and a smooth, smooth close finish. :happy036:

I have Used the Gillette Trac 11 Injector Blades..They are Kinda Mediocre Compared to NOS Schick & NOS Personna Twins..Not as Sharp or as Smooth..They are Very Usable Mind..Ironically it was Gillette that Released them 1st..In Fact..The 1st Twins they Released were a Bit of a Disaster then they Had to Improve them in a Hurry..They Don't Last Very Long for Me..:)

Shave #2 with the 1912 Gem

    09-02-16.JPG

    1-pass shave (ATG)
    GEM PFTE blade (2).

Yesterday’s shave with this same setup was so good that I knew I could get by with a one-pass today. And I wasn’t disappointed.

In getting to know this razor I’m starting out with an exaggerated “ride the cap” angle. I then drop the razor handle down slowly until I begin to get that incredible feedback and try to hold it right there. I notice that doing this in repeated slow, short strokes helps me learn the angle more quickly.

When I get to those trouble spots like my chin, I stay in the exaggerated “ride the cap” position to get a better feel for the ATG in that position on the chin. As I do this repeatedly, almost like buffing, I do get some reduction and the confidence to adjust the angle ever so slightly. I figure that in time I will get to the point where I feel more comfortable to expand the angle.

For those of you that have mastered this razor - Any suggestions regarding a different blade?

    Cheers!

I think you're using the best new blade available for that razor. There aren't many options. Coated SS, Uncoated SS, or Carbon Steel, and of course there are those ubiquitous Hardware store paint scraper blades. Stropping blades are rare, iffy, and a lot of work. If I wanted to do that much work for a shave, I'd use a straight razor.

My plan today was to use my E2 fitted with a Feather AC Pro, but I soon discerned I had probably damaged the edge when trimming it. I set the E2 aside and went with the I2 Hydro fitted with an old Personna and had a wonderful shave, maybe not as close as the E2 but very comfortable. I like it.
