I like the AOS sandalwood cream -- haven't tried the soap. I also like their Ocean Kelp shaving cream. I think my favorite sandalwood shaving soap is D.R. Harris -- it comes in a shaving stick too!
Those were pretty much my observations about the Art of Shaving Sandalwood soap - quite expensive and super slick and protective, and the best sandalwood scent around. And the Taylor of Old Bond Street and Truefitt & Hill sandalwood soaps are not expensive? It seems odd that many folks condemn one overpriced, excellent soap for being pricey, but praise similar soaps for being excellent. Why do people on the forums dislike AoS so much? It does not seem to be just pricing. As can be seen from the above, it is not all that more expensive than Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood. All are similarly priced in many outlets, however. As the above shows, the key to finding a good deal is looking around a bit. Some artisan soaps are their equals, but very few that I have tried.
Holy cow, that is a fantastic bargain! Congratulations on your score. I look forward to reading your observations and comparisons with your other sandalwoods. After reading this thread, my next shaving soap will be the Sego Lily Hawaiian Sandalwood. Unless, of course, I find a rock-bottom bargain price on AoS sandalwood like some lucky fellow.
My absolute favorite sandalwoods are TOBS and mama bears "Mysore sandalwood" of course, as I mentioned, I will compare them later on
