The Letters Mean Nothing...Factory Batch Numbers is All..M this a M that is Nothing...I Don't Know about the Blade Exposure..The One thing I Do Know is that Quality Suffered as Time Went On in the USA Plants with Machinery Wear..The Dutch Made Models are Far Superior Made & much Tighter Tolerances..That's Assuming they are Both Type I 1s without the Lever Function..:)

Well it's been 12+ hours since I shaved and we have a winner. While I don't think I could go wrong with either razor there is just more growth on the 1924 side so this round goes to the 1914. As a side note, I was just complemented on my aftershave. The Stirling Barbershop is still going strong 12+ hours later!

Now this is just a guess, but because both have different markings on the tops, could they be early and late productions of the I.

I Suspect the One on the Right was the 1st Edition..When Eversharp Took Over the Upper Management's Heads were Up there Jacksies..They thought that they Could Change the Name to Eversharp & Do Away with the Injector thing & Associated Schick Brand Name..;)

The I 1 was their 1st Atempt to Do that when they Used the Term Safety Razor..They also Produced an Injector Called a Ladies Eversharp with No Mention of Schick or Injector...Cutting a Long Story Short it Back Fired on them & Sales Plummeted & they Had to Rethink their Ideas & Stick to Schick & Injector Terminology that the Public were Loyal to...That will Account for the Different Markings..:D

I spent some time tonight working on my Rolls. I had previously cleaned and conditioned the strop. Tonight I added some .5 micron diamond paste to it. I also cleaned up and repaired the hone(it had cracked so I super glued it back together and sanded the joint as described in previous posts).I clean out all the gunk from the chassis and cleaned the friction assembly as well. I gave the blade(previously honed outside the system) about 20 laps on the strop and wow is ever sharp!

    Ontario cutlery company straight
    Rolls razor
    Schick G1

    Tabac
    Stirling 24mm synthetic
Lime AS and Nivea sensitive ASB

Yes, I actually did use 3 razors for tonight's shave. I took my fist baby steps with a straight, my Ontario Cutlery CO. I did the flats of my cheeks and part of my neck. And while it did cut whiskers it still needs to be a tad sharper.

After those areas I finished the pass with the rolls razor, just like with the rapid it did ok on the easy areas but ready sucked with the though whiskers on my chin.I did another pass with the Rolls but discovered that it really wasn't close enough.

Final pass with the G1 to clean things up and I'm happy with a nice DFS. Time to get some more practice honing to learn to get those edges a bit sharper. Have a nice night my friends!

I can't remember who told me they were interested in finding a Gem Junior Bar SE razor. I found one hidden in an ebay razor lot, so PM me if you are still interested.

I'm in the same place. I took another crack at the Rolls on Film tonight, applying a bit more pressure, a lot more laps, and I think I'm making progress, arm hair cuts way better . Will do at least one pass in the morning and see how she goes. Too many razors not enough time.

    SEptember 12, 2016

Long day and I'm 4 shave reports behind, so this will be my SEptember report on using the GEM Featheweight.

    IMG_4598.JPG

2-day growth, 3-pass shave (WTG, XTG, ATG)
    GEM PFTE blade (3).

After my struggles with the 1912 GEM (mostly in getting the ATG angle right on my chin) @clint64 gave the sage advice of starting my journey with GEM-types by using a Featherweight. He knew that I had just spent a year with injectors and his opinion was the Featherweight was probably most like an injector than any other GEM.

After my first shave - I knew he was right. The weight, the easy ability to find the correct angle, the injector-like manuverability despite its longer blade width all combined to make me feel as though I was using an injector. Reminded me somewhat of shaves with the Schick Es and Gs.

None of the shaves caught the baby, but I never chased.
    Of the 4 shaves
    - two were 3 out of 5 stars (a Solid Shave) they didn't clean my chin of stubble for 8 hrs.
    - one was a 4 (Above Average) - stubble free for 8 hours
    - one shave, the first one, was barely a 2 star (Below Average). I realized that I was not using a PFTE blade. I think it was a stainless and it dawned on me right at the beginning of the shave. I knew that the next day's shave with a PFTE would prove my blade assumption. It did.

I'm content in knowing that a longer stint with this combo would provide consistent, above-average shaves. I'm tempted to do that, but impatience will get the better of me as we get closer to midway in the month and I still have at least two more SEs to sample.

So what should come next my SE friends - a razor that I believe to be a 1912 EverReady aka "Shovelhead" or a 1912 Damaskeene?

Excellent shave with the PAL Injecto-Matic today. Wondeful lather from the Arko shave stick. Three easy passes for a dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day guys. :)

    Razor: GEM Micro-matic Open Comb
Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic
Lather: Through The Fire Fine Craft 'The Beast' sample
Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with Barbasol Pacific Rush, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Nice shave this morning with this combination of products. Only one tiny weeper today as compared to yesterday's several. That's an improvement! This razor is aggressive for me and I have to watch angle (cap basically flat against my face) and pressure. The pressure element is key. It feels like I have to use no pressure at all, less than any other razor I own. But with those keys in mind it shaves really close!

    Have a great day!

Both are great choices. The Damaskeene is milder so I'd suggest you let that be your guide and pick what suits you. :)

Thanks to the unanimous opinion of trusted SE shavers @spidey9 @Norcalnewb @clint64 @Karl G
I'm now moving to the 1911-ish Damaskeene OC.

(Which reminds me, I just may do limited shaves with it this month and move a longer trial with it into OC OCtober.)

I got this razor a couple months back and had one, maybe two shaves - which don't really count. I consider this to be my first solid testing.

    IMG_4601.JPG

2-day growth, 2-pass shave (WTG, ATG)
    GEM PTFE blade (1).

The recommendation to move to this combo after the GEM Featherweight was perfect. First impressions is that this is one smooth razor.

First pass reduction was solid. Good feedback - far less of the ping, ping, ping of the 1912 GEM or the quieter Featherweight - but enough to let you know it's working . Also the same for smoothness - light years more smooth than the 1912, twice as smooth as the Featherweight. You can really tell during the ATG on the chin - I'm not perfect with the technique there and I got two weepers, but after a few ATG chin strokes, apprehension disappeared.

In my remaining shaves this week I'll focus on my overall technique not just with blade angle but also on my usual problem spots. The wider blade, compared to injectors, does cause me to adapt my approach.

    Cheers!
