Thu. 9/15/16 Excellent shave this morning with the Alumigoose. Today I tried the Kai Captain Sharp blade and found it to work beautifully. I'm thinking a lot of the mystique surrounding this razor and these different blades is more down to technique than anything else. Wonderful lather from the Speick shave cream. This is one of my favorites, it's almost as though it keeps multiplying after the initial face lather. Three easy breezy passes for a refreshing dolphin smooth finish. Have a great day friends.
SOTD September 15, 2016 Blade: GEM Stainless Razor: GEM Micro-matic Open Comb Brush: Vulfix 2006c badger Lather: Vulfix Lavender shave cream Post: Witch hazel splash, Speick, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up Not as smooth of a shave today and I'm not sure why. Perhaps the blade is on it's last legs. It feels smooth and sharp still but reduction on the first pass wasn't great. I touched up the areas that needed it most and called it a day. Multiple passes with this razor would probably lead to more irritation, so I just hit pause. I'll attack it again tomorrow. Hope you have a great day!
ere's a quick rundown on last night's events... @RyX did a great job in packaging and shipping the razor. Thanks! He also sent a sample of acqua di Florida soap. The scent is fantastic! My wife even likes the scent and told me to buy some after she finally accepted the fact that I didn't buy another razor. Hmmm, maybe I will do just that! The razor was in fine shape, but I had given it a thorough cleaning, loaded up the twin blade from the pack (Japanese made I believe) that I bought on eBay and then went to sleep dreaming about this morning's shave. I lathered up with Stirling glacial lemon chill, using me Semogue boar and went to town. I had it set on 5 at first and that was fairly mild as I felt there was quite a bit of stubble left behind after the first few strokes. So, I bumped it up to 7 and this razor came alive! I did two passes and got a BBS! The shave was effortless, smooth and comfortable! This razor is efficient for me in that combination with the efficiency, aggressiveness and comfort. There isn't much feedback and as a result I did end up with three weepers on my chin, but they were tiny. First impressions are that this razor with a twin blade is a winner! I'm glad I have the opportunity to try this razor! Thanks @twhite ! I'll do another shave with the twin and then try it with a single chick blade. If there anyone reading this that has not signed up yet, do it now! You will be very glad you did! 55 minutes agoEditDeleteReport + QuoteReply
Thursday Excellent and easy BBS shave with the VC1 Auto Strop and a Modified GEM stainless blade. This razor will never let me down. Razor: Vc1 Auto Strop Brush: Stirling Finest Lather: TOBS Grapefruit Post: Osage Rub
After much deliberation I have come up with a winner for my head to head SE razors: The differences between the Ever-Ready 1914 and 1924 are subtle but I think the 1914 is slightly smoother. The results are almost identical, BBS results with no feedback from the alum. 12 hours removed from my shave yesterday and both sides were equally smooth. Yesterday was a draw, Monday the 1914 had a slight edge so I had to give it the win. I do not think I could go wrong with either razor. Have a great day folks!
I only got my 1914 razor late last week and I concur that the 1914 is a fantastic razor. I like it much better than the Gem 1912.
SEptember Shave I was inspired by Billy's shave yesterday with his Type F. I now remember why this is one of my favorite Schicks. Very nice BBS Mystic Waters Lime Soap B-400 by Tom Brush Schick Type F Chick Blade (1) Alum Lucky Tiger Myrsol Blue AS Have fun!
Same here, yesterday was only the second time I've used mine. I'm going to pair it with a longer handle and see if it improves.
