Do you have many jwest razors? Have two myself but thinking i am gonna ad som more in the future.these are grait shavers.but for now it's sheffield time☺honed a wostenholm today.testshave tomorrow☺
Tonights shave was wonderfully smooth. So far, this is the smoothest razor I own. It almost didn't happen. This poor razor was very abused before I got it. It had rust spots all over it, and the scales were very warped. I couldn't close it without it hitting 1/3 of the blade. I fixed all that, and cleaned it up, but I didn't polish it up shiny. It was a part of my honing frenzy this weekend. I wanted it to show its age, and some wear. In the end "Big Ugly Cherry" rewarded me with the smoothest shave I have had, so far(Two Passes only). Keeper Keeper Keeper Razor- Vintage Japanese "Cherry" Best Steel. Its a big blade 22mm. Soap- "Arko Avon Spicy" scented Brush- Semogue 1305 boar Aftershave- Vintage Shulton Old Spice.

Tonights shave is with another razor, that's been giving me honing problems. Go figure, Tungsten Steel blade. I guess I will have to double my time on the stones with this one. I had a decent shave with this razor, but, I want better. It was a three pass shave, without touch ups, that left me smooth. Razor- Vintage Japanese "TOWA" Tungsten Steel Brush- Semogue 1800 Boar Soap- "Arko Spicy"(Avon Spicy infused) Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman
Tonight I decided to use a straight again. Last night I was bored so I decided to re hone this razor. I wanted to get the toe and heal better. There was a slight smile on the blade. I used my 15 micron and took most of the smile out. I then went through my progression of lapping film 12,9,53&1. Then i gave it 12 light licks on some CrO. I stopped there as I was expecting a strop from @Drygulch, an American Bridal leather. Sure enough it arrived today. I gave it 20 on the PP side then gave it 60 on the leather. I lathered up with my favorite brush. My B400 with the Omega 49 knot. Tabac was my choice of soap. I had 2 passes with no lood. I finished with my best straight shave yet. Mind you this is only like my 12 shave. I would call this a CCS. I see myself falling down another Rabbit hole. The razor is a 5/8 made by some cat named Eduard Paule. Congrats Tom. How is the honing coming along? Is the blade getting sharp enough with the lapping film?
I think so. There is no tugging when I get the angle right. It pretty much glides over my face. I have given a test shave without using the CrO and it is a bit tuggy. When i go on the CrO it smooths it out. I will be ordering some paste from Maggards. CrO and some Fe Oxide this weekend. That should get it even better. I am making up some paddle type strops for the compounds. Being I am just learning honing, I think it is going pretty good. I will eventually send one of my blades to get a pro hone. Then I can compare it to my honing. Ton Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
