So I decided to use the blade that came with my Merkur Classic 33C. I was warned by some on this board that the blade was not very good, but curiosity got the best of me. Well you guys that told me the blade wasn't very good were right. The blade is not sharp or smooth and there was a lot of discomfort around the goatee area. How can a company known for producing such great razors produce such a crappy blade?
Some folks like the Merkur blade. I don't, but some do. For them it isn't a "crappy" blade. Just sayin'.
I "think" I have only ever tried the one that came with my Futur, and I honestly don't remember what I thought of it. Higher price and its generally poor reviews have kept me from trying any more. Some people, especially in Europe it seems, swear by them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I've heard lots of people complain about Merkur blades. I've only used their blades that came along with their razor. I didn't think they were bad. YMMV!
I used them for many years before realizing there were better blades out there. They rank pretty low on my list, though there at still several others that are worse. And I can say that they do last a long time.
Your Mileage May Vary is absolutely right. I find the Merkur Super to be very good to excellent, and rate it above the Derby Extra, Astra and Wilkinson Sword. The only blade I've liked more is the Feather. For what it's worth I shave my face and neck daily (saving the goatee), and have a medium course beard with sensitive skin, particularly around the neck.
I guess calling it "crappy" was a wrong choice of words. Blades are a subjective topic after all. I was just expecting a better experience !!!
I tried 2 and did not like them, but they were the first 2 blades I ever used, so it might have been technique more than the blade
I have had good experiences with using Merkur blades in Merkur razors. And I've not had bad experiences with using Merkur blades in other razors.
