is it important to lather creams. I find a few twirls with the brush is all you need. Am I doing it right. Usually apply straight to the face.

It's your cream. Enjoy it your way.
If you're getting what you like the way you're doing it, that's all that matters.

My style is similar: A dollop of the soap/cream goes into the bottom of my scuttle, a few seconds of swirling, and then work it into desired lather directly on my face.

Good stuff, and the warm lather makes my skin feel so good!

As a face latherer, I use my creams in two ways:

If it is in a tub like Castle Forbes, I will simply dip my brush tips (soaked & shaken dry) to get the soap to my wet beard.

If it is tube cream like Proraso I will poke a "hole" in the damp brush and put a fair dollop into the "muzzle" and then to my face.

Either way works fine -- lots of folks just sploodge a bit onto their fingers and then to their beard.
