Hey, this is 'Merica! We gots lotsa fat boys here! Seriously though, I have two. I don't even like them all that much, and only use them a couple times/year. However, they have a great nostalgic appeal to me, and I am unlikely to ever part with them. I like the look, and I like the feel and weight. They just don't shave me all that well. Perhaps I just haven't found the right blade for them - my favorite Polsilver and Feather blades don't seem to work so well in the FatDude, for me.
I owned one Fatboy........and a Slim and a Sheraton and a Blacky Beauty and a Senator and a......then I discovered vintage Schick razors. I ended up PIFing or trading most of my Gillette razors on this forum. I have now taken up anything that will hold an Artist Club blade (Mongoose, Cobra etc)..... I do have 800+ DE blades and only the Pils to use them in though maybe shoulda PIFed some blades too.
Same story here. Had a beautiful Fatboy but no burning desire to use it. Sold for injector and SEs I prefer to actually shave with. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I have 2...1 is in very good condition and complete so I dont use it, and the other is user grade which I do use.
I bought one just to have in my collection. I wasn't really impressed with the way it performed...too bulky & awkward. My son has it now (with 33 other assorted DE & SE razors).
Great job, shaved on number 9 I just got it last week. It's actually pretty good. Has a bit of a musk smell when you first put it on, which I'm not crazy about, but that goes away and you're left with that same sandalwood smell as the soap.
I think that it's actually great that some people are buying up multiple Fatboys. I can trust shaving enthusiasts to take really good care of their equipment and to possibly sell at a fair price in the future should they feel like slimming down their collection. I can't remember the last time I've been inside an antique store but I'm still always on the lookout for a Fatboy. I have an itch and the only way to scratch it is by acquiring an adjustable at some point - it remains to be seen whether it ends up being a Fatboy, a Merkur clone, or one of the new adjustables coming out like the Rockwell or Parker.
I do visit stores and look for them and the like. Not that I need another, but for deals that I like to share with our community. Keep the Faith, fellow Vintage Enthusiast!
If I could find one for a decent price I would buy it but as of now I own zero Fatboys. The Slim Adjustable is as close as I own but I rarely go above setting 3 as I shave every 24 hours at the most, typically every 12 hours which is most comfortable shaving on the 1 or 2 setting. I also agree that it is great that some of you own more than one. That means that they will be taken care of for future generations.
I have an Executive on the way. I've flipped a dozen Fatboys. I'm always amazed at how many people want them more than I do. I keep buying adjustable razors but the only one I ever keep is the birth year Slim I've had for a couple of years.
Funny, I was about to mention the same thing. They really are excellent shavers. It's a real pity that they are rare, as I think everyone should own one.
