Herm! We must be twins separated at birth! I thought your avatar looked familiar!

I have the same ball end tech, with the etched logo and birth year! Coincidence? I think not!

    :hooray:

Just got done shaving with my fat handle tech, new voskhod blade, Stirling bay rum soap, and maggard synthetic brush.

No cuts, nicks, weepers, or irritation. A real confidence builder and a fine shave. One that makes ya smile at the end.

The Tech is a great razor. The solid, ball end handle? Not so much. The fat handle or Bakelite are my preference. I have several of these Techs scattered hither and yon; Deer lease, dopp bag, mother in-law's house...

    Soap - Proraso Green Tub
    Razor - Gillette Tech
Blade - Gillette Silver Blue - Russia
Brush - Jayaruh 94 Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger knot
Aftershave - TSD Lavender with some TSD Lavender cologne

I had this razor in my collection on my "to use" list when this thread popped up. How could I not load it up and use it ASAP? So I put in a new blade, whipped up a big bowl of slick lather and lathered up. This razor is very nimble. I also noticed the angle is a bit more shallow than some other razors. If you ride the cap and listen for feedback, this razor is very easy to use. I took one pass WTG and after a second coat of lather, I took a second XTG pass. Because of how nimble the razor is and the fact that it is not very aggressive, I made quick work of two passes. I wasn't chasing a BBS shave and did not get close to one, but for a quick and easy shave on a Thursday morning, I would call it a DFS. I'm glad I used it before I start 30 days of OCtober. I will definitely keep this one loaded and ready for a quick shave...
BTW, if you want to knock your wife's socks off with aftershave & cologne, the TSD lavender is the ticket. My wife couldn't get enough of it.

The Tech is my third favorite razor for shaving less than 24 hours of growth. Its simple, mild and can give me 3 passes in under 6 minutes. Perfect for a fast shave early in the A.M. with one eye closed.

Those are both as mild as the tech (Aristocrat is slightly more agressive) but with much better handles for my hand shape. Looking through these pictures however I see a lot of techs with large handles, I think I would like that much better. I'll have to try that one day.

I was told by one of their salesman, who seemed to know very well what he was talking about, that the production has been delayed by an year.

My husband has the Travel tech-same handle, but shorter, to fit in a tiny case. He likes it.

The little travel razors do well, too. I passed up a pre-war with a thin common bar handle a while ago (there's a couple more I'm waiting on). I did a fourth shave with the Perma-Sharp tonight, and it seems like it's getting smoother. I'll have to get some more of those.

I had a most wonderful shave today with a 58 Tech. 20160930_074238_resized.jpg Wow, who knew.

While purely speculation, according to what I read, the AOS tech was going to be around $75 and potentially Zamak. Delta Echo and Razor Emporium, for example, are both selling their refurbished/replated brass fat handle techs for $75. That's how I justified my Delta Echo purchase.
