I got some ( pinuad not clubman) , because I was bored and curious. After a few hours it's *VERY* mild, but pleasent enough. I got a non-cat- urine bottle, and it's actually fairly nice. YMMV of course. P.S. it did remind me of my grandfather... and not in a nice way. it reminded me of a rememebred scent from his funeral. ;> i still find it a nice, mild scent that doesn't irritate me the way a lot of artificial fragrances do.
You'll find that most people refer to Clubman/Pinaud interchangeably. It's all from the same company, along with Lustray, Jeris, and now Tres Flores. Glad you enjoy it!
Eh, not THAT bad I can totally understand the general urinecake/cat pee assessment of how LV smells . . . but I really think it's a strange case and there's more to it. On the one hand, Pinaud has a really well-functioning aftershave here. I'm a wet shaver and I have very sensitive skin that's prone to redness and bumps, especially if there's any lingering bacteria post-shave. I've tried many different aftershaves, mostly traditional drugstore stuff . . . Old Spice, Aqua Velva, etc. Most of them don't do my skin any favors. Some even incur zits. But Lilac Vegetal works really well. I looked carefully at the ingredients before I purchasing and felt it was just about the simplest formula I'd ever seen . . . it's basically just alcohol, fragrance, and a color or two. Seems to rely heavily on Linalool for its smell, which means it's a naturally-occurring vegetable-based scent, and true to its name. It definitely leaves my skin happy. On the other hand, we're talking about something that hasn't really changed since its inception back in the dark ages. What year is this stuff from, like 1880-something? So it's around 130 yrs old, and times change - people don't dig lilac water anymore. What was popular in Edwardian times ain't so cool in the ObamaNation. So yeah, when I have to go out in public after a shave, I skip Lilac Vegetal and just wear regular Clubman, which I believe is just fine for the general public.
It's one of my regular aftershaves. I guess I'm from the era when you went to the barber shop and everyone that left the shop smelled like that. It's kind of a man's man scent. When I was a kid I looked forward to the first time the barber shaved the back of my neck and splashed some Lilac Vegital on my neck and around my ears where he trimmed with a straight razor. When that scent hits your senses you felt like you have arrived at manhood. I guess now it's a nostalgia thing because there are all kinds of great scents around but Lilac Vegital is old school and I still enjoy it. I hope it's around for my grandkids to experience.
I get the squishy face from the wife when I put it on. I was told to give it ten minutes before she comes near, but that's a dead give away after 15yrs. of the "so how do I look" game. Kind regards,
I have found the majority of the Clubman products to smell a little weird. The Lilac Vegitol was very unusual and hard to describe. I liked it better than others and less than others. To me it kind of smelled like Lilacs but there was a strong chemical scent in it as well.
Wow, Penhaligon's compared with Pinaud. There's a first. Only wish Penhaligon's was the price of Pinaud...
I like Lilac Vegetal despite the initial formaldahyde smell; it leaves a cool, smooth feeling behind and once it dries out, it actually smells like lilacs. For some reason I'm more inclined to use it after I bathe. I haven't used it as an aftershave in years. Best Regards goshawk
