  1. It's not a scent I would have chosen based on a review. I was concerned it had gone rancid as soaps can do. After a bit of research I'm not the only shaver reporting that impression of the scent.

I'm looking forward to mastering this Golden Machine. I might take one of the others we swapped for a shave soon. I know he's working on one I sent him.
Rule or focus, it's all about learning techniques and getting the best shave possible!

  4. As one who lives in tornado country (and earthquake if the New Madrid comes alive again) just wanted to shout out my support to the hurricane crowd down along the Florida/Georgia/Carolina coasts. My advice for you at this moment is..........DUCK! Here's to everyone's safety down there. Looks like it'll be a long wet night.

Another day, another great shave with the Rocket. I almost dont know what to say about the razor except it's great. The English Fern scent is outstanding. No one else may notice, care, or agree, but I think I smell great this morning. Definitely a good way to start my day. I hope everyone has a great day!
  11. Congrats on such a good shave. It is always nice when things click without having to overthink them.

Happy Friday everyone. I had a friend request this razor head on his order from James last year. His/our ship came in July so this razor is still relatively new to me. A couple of things make using this razor a very different experience from my original Wolfman OC. First is the increased blade gap which certainly takes things up an aggression notch. It's not a R41 or a Ikon Tech but it is more than the standard. Also this one is much lighter than the original. I have to pay particular attention not to add pressure.

The Fine Platinum soap works fantastic in a shave stick. It is very concentrated and does not take much to produce enough lather for 4 or 5 passes. When properly hydrated the soap is pretty slick but the scent is fantastic. I loaded a new Feather in the Wolfman Ti and did a traditional 3 pass shave, WTG, XTG, and ATG. With very minimal clean up I almost caught the prefect shave. Today was easily the second best shave of the month thus far. I finished up the shave with a splash of the matching Fine Platinum Aftershave. Overall a great start to the day. I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.

Happy Birthday to our great friend and fearless leader, Neal! I hope you have a fantastic day!

Here's Neal shaving with the finest Russian steel! Observant wet shavers will note that he has the characteristic stubble from yesterday's shave with a new Voskhod blade. He will go to great lengths to look handsome for his Bride and today's victims...er...uh...customers. :)

Good morning everyone. I had another night shave last night. I'm trying out night shaves to see if it can help with the hectic mornings and rushing around trying not to be late. So far so good however I miss feeling that freshly shaven smooth face in the morning. The shave last night started out rough with lots of tugging and pulling, half way through the first pass I ditched the Voskhod and grabbed a twice used Polsilver. Once I made the change I was cruising on a freshly paved road in a Caddy, smooth! I don't know what happened with the Voskhod, the previous two shaves on it were delightful, I certainly expected a better longevity out of the blade. In any case the Pol Silver cleaned me up quite nicely and left me smooth and relaxed and ready for bed. Have a great day my friends. And for those still in the path of Matthew, please stay safe.

    Razor: Thick Cap Ball-End OT
    Blade: Rapira Super Stainless (3)
    Brush: VdH Boar
    Soap: Williams

I was in a hurry yesterday, so no shave. Today's was pretty much on point. Going in, I was a little worried about the blade as I've had mixed results with the Rapira on shaves >2, but I need not have worried as everything went well. DFS for the win!

One more day with this combo. I'm not sure yet if I'll stay with this razor for next week, move to my other OT (same basic head just in what's left of nickel plating and mated to a travel handle), or move on to the Goodwill 160. Ah! First world problems...

  17. So I didn't shave this morning, but I noticed that my face has almost no visible stubble. It feels like a sheet of sandpaper, but looks OK. When my facial hair is like this, it is very difficult for me to shave, because I get so much skin irritation. But I thought it was interesting that a shave yesterday that I thought was almost there, gave me a longer lasting shave than some of my razors that I knew were shave ready. Will do a little more polishing on the blade, and do another shave and see if it is there.
  18. A shave today with one of my favorites.
