October 26 Razor: Cadet OC Blade: Crystal Brush: Stirling Kong Soap: Tabac Post: Cold water rinse, Alum block Another excellent shave with the Cadet. My face really did not need another shave, which is most impressive for me. But, I wanted one. Tabac produces a great lather and I really like the shave stick even more than the bowl. The Crystal blade continues to be an excellent sharp and smooth blade. Definitely no complaints. Another BBS. Splashed on some Fine Platinum AS and it has been a good day.
Razor: Timeless Stainless Steel Open Comb w/Timeless Plaid Handle Blade: Gillette Platinum (6) Brush: El Druida Cocobolo w/ Druida Manchurian Soap: Route 66 Perfect Storm Aftershave: Floid Vigoroso The handle in this brush is Cocobolo which is a tropical hardwood of Central American trees belonging to the to the genus Dalbergia . Only the heartwood is used; this is typically orange or reddish-brown in color, often with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. The handle has a nice orange hue to it. The shave was great accompanied with a new brush always helps for me. My traditional 3 passes with minimal clean up.
Next up in the soap focus is one of the top dogs in my den, Castle Forbes. This is the first time I used a synthetic brush with CF. For the razor I went with PRC Chimera. Three DE shaves in one week is just strange so it felt good to have no safety bar. As usually it took just a small amount of CF to makes lot's of lather. One of my issues with synthetic brushes is they are very springy and send lather everywhere. Cf proved is status and was cushiony, slick and smelt great. Four passes and no blood and zero irritation. Just missed the baby, kind of surprised. The edge was smooth and sharp. I enjoy how easy it easy to maneuver the kamisori razors (all mine are western grinds). Irritation A+ Closeness A- Smoothness A Sharpness A
My shave life is getting a little boring. Days and days of bloodless smooth shaves. Where is the excitement? Tonight I was at my favorite Japanese grocery store picking up some fish for dinner, when what do I find? Japanese disposable Kamisori razors. I could not resist picking up a three pack for $1.50. Tomorrow's planned shave. Wish me luck shaving Yakuza brothers!
AWESOME!!! The Russian Cartel will be watching and waiting for you to complete most glorious disposable kamisori shave with a bottle of vodka at the ready. Whether you drink it or try to cover all the wounds with it to disinfect them is totally your call!
OCtober-een! October 26 Grand Blade Trials Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (2) Blade - (1) Soap - Arko Brush - Semogue 620 Post - Alum Welcome to India! The Grand Blade Trials move to the Gillette Wilkinson Sword, made in their Indian plant. While the "other" Wilkinson is famed for its sharpness and excellence, this blade has a bit of a tainted reputation if you can believe the chatter around the various forums. Of course, there will be those on both sides of the blade, so to speak, so we'll try to sort it out. The only semi-comparison to make between a Gillette Indian blade vs. the rest of their blades would be the black wrapper Super Platinum vs. the NOS Blue Wrapper. No contest. The blue wins that one easily. At least for me. And others who have stated the same thing. So how will this blade stand up? Well, I can say that with the lather the Semogue and Arko gave me if there is a problem with the shave it won't be that. The first pass on the mild 2 Slim was actually not too bad. You could hear it working and the reduction was noticeable. Makes me think the blade must be sharp, especially at the end of the second pass. Nice reduction there as well. Still a little off of DFS but not far. The third pass, ATG and Slide, produced a very nice DFS finish. Not a near-BBS but closer to that than the other end of the spectrum. And, the feel of the shave was smooth all the way. No issues or complaints at all. If you like a very mild razor and a blade that will give you a more than passable shave with no issues or irritation, I would recommend this one. It is a platinum coated blade as well. Tomorrow we'll see how it handles the mid-range of the Slim and see if it stays as good. I wouldn't call this a excellent blade, but definitely very good. Well above average so far. The best part of travelling to India to shave? The train rides, of course. Who needs the official pushers who help shove people in the Japanese trains when you can just ride wherever you want in India?
I think they are for eyebrows, love the pink. Can't wait to hear about the shave. I volunteer to hold your beer.
26 October 2016 Last couple of days on the detour. Spent all day with brooms, scoops, and vacuums. But alas, being the Veg using hero that I am, got it all cleaned up with time to spare. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a terrific Thursday!
They had smaller ones labeled for eyebrows. These are the pink he-man razors for removing studly whiskers.
October 27, 2016 Timeless OC .95 Gap with Triad Ti Feather (1) Rudy Vey Rover with TGN Finest Route 66 Twisted Tweed Witch Hazel Floid Blue A very good shave this morning. I know it is boring but the Route 66 soaps just flat works. They are so easy to lather and are very slick. Back to the Timeless OC for the next few days. With such a large blade gap, this razor will bite if you don't pay attention. The Timeless also requires a much steeper angle than my other razors as well. So it is not surprising that I ended up with a small weeper on my third pass. Overall I would give the near BBS shave an "A-". I finished up with a splash of Floid Blue. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.
