  1. Interesting, but I will follow your advice. Thanks for sharing your experiments, keep it up and good luck.

  2. I would encourage anyone with a Shake Sharp to go with it but it's a pretty unique beast. Two Feathers on the todo list.
  3. Yeah, me too. My close ups are not for sharing!

  6. Today's shave
Hot water wash with a washcloth
    Brothers Bristles/ ace black badger
    BOMBED Soap Commander Respect
    Schick injector type H
Schick Chinese blade (1) donated by @Robyflexx (tx again bro)
    Iced L&M Florida Water
Today the shave was nice. New to me razor, it took a minute to get the angle and handhold. But after, it zoomed along. Leaving me very well shaved, and a bit in minor awe. This razor was smaller in person than i had imagined it to be. But it performed in a big way. Finished with iced atomized Florida Water.
I'm really think my wife may like this one, maybe more than her lady Gillette.
Hope y'all did as well, or better. 20161122_151227_resized.jpg

    SOTD: 11/22/2016 - "Tester Tuesday"

    Pre: Hot shower
    Brush: Semogue 620 Boar
Soap(s): West Coast Shaving "Citrus & Basil" & Dr Jon's "Hydra"
Razor: West Coast Shaving OC head on "Barber Pole" Stainless handle w/ Personna Lab Blue (3)
    Post: Dr Jon's "Hydra" splash

Got to try out some wares from West Coast Shaving. Still waiting to pass judgement, but had to use Hydra on my head since I was struggling with the WCS soap. Other than that, a great, refreshing shave.
Be smooth and shave it up, everyone!

  8. You bet brother. Glad it worked for you. :happy088:
  9. Shave 50. The last shave with my Suzumasa was shave 40. It hit the Wow! scale. Today, it was a good shave. Funny how that works. Some days you've got it, some days not as much. Still ended up with a great result but not as easy or enjoyable as the last time. And I think that greater consistency will be one of the differences that shows up in the next 50 shaves. :)

The progression from, "Really, how can anyone use these things?" to disappointment over a good shave not being a Wow! shave is easy to see in the first 50 shaves. I'd say I'm at the point now of being reasonably competent. Meaning, I can get a really close, mostly BBS, shave consistently and without hesitation. I expect the progression over the next 50 will be more subtle and gradual. By shave 100 I hope to have little to no noise from the alum, a near total absence of cuts or nicks, BBS in the few remaining DFS spots, and maybe even a superb two pass shave instead of the three I use now.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement along the way. I'm going to stop numbering my shaves going forward. I did it initially so that I could track how things progressed during this initial learning stage. Hopefully any lurkers out there considering straights took comfort in the steady progression and are ready to join the dark side.

  12. I find it very interesting how my skill set changed once the straight razor shaves began to get a normal competency. The other razor types became more proficient. Im not saying perfection, but very much more proficient. I credit the straight razor endeavors, i think my touch just became softer. Amazing what can be learned with a sharp piece of steel against your skin.
Good show, nice work on the first 50, may your progress continue in the next 50.
