Shave 50. The last shave with my Suzumasa was shave 40. It hit the Wow! scale. Today, it was a good shave. Funny how that works. Some days you've got it, some days not as much. Still ended up with a great result but not as easy or enjoyable as the last time. And I think that greater consistency will be one of the differences that shows up in the next 50 shaves.
The progression from, "Really, how can anyone use these things?" to disappointment over a good shave not being a Wow! shave is easy to see in the first 50 shaves. I'd say I'm at the point now of being reasonably competent. Meaning, I can get a really close, mostly BBS, shave consistently and without hesitation. I expect the progression over the next 50 will be more subtle and gradual. By shave 100 I hope to have little to no noise from the alum, a near total absence of cuts or nicks, BBS in the few remaining DFS spots, and maybe even a superb two pass shave instead of the three I use now.
Thanks for everyone's encouragement along the way. I'm going to stop numbering my shaves going forward. I did it initially so that I could track how things progressed during this initial learning stage. Hopefully any lurkers out there considering straights took comfort in the steady progression and are ready to join the dark side.
