So I have been pondering which items to use to kick off Decadent December. I have a NOS Schick G5, that I was sure I was going to use. But when I started to shove the blade blank out, I sort of got cold feet. It would be kind of cool to be the first one to use a 60-75 year old razor, but I already have a handful of G's, so it isn't like it's going to be some sort of new experience. Depending on how you look at it, it would just be kind of a waste. On the other hand though, I can't think of anything I could do that would be more decadent than to use it for no good reason other than to be the first one. It isn't like it is a real big money item either way. What do you guys think? Cool start to the month, or just a waste?
December 1 SOTD: Stirling Synthetic Brush Stubble Trubble Up & Adam Shave Soap Fat Boy Stirling Unscented PSB Clubman Vanilla AS First shave of December, and I am starting with my Fatboy. It is like a familiar friend. The razor just provides a nice comfortable shave. I used this soap for the first time, as I just met the maker yesterday. I am going to hold off on providing a true review of the soap until I have a few shaves with it, but it is very promising. The scent is just great, which I was honestly pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect from a coffee scented soap, but I really enjoyed it. It smells like a latte. There is a nice touch of vanilla that really comes out when lathering. My face felt nice and smooth after, and the soap seems have a good post shave feel. My initial impressions of this soap is very positive and look forward to using more. I hope everyone has a great day!
My first thought was to use it. However, since you have other G's you can use I would keep that one as is. If for no other reason, it would make interesting trade material for something you don't have. Just pick some of your favorite cool stuff and give it a whirl. Don't you have the cool Mongoose with the black and polished head?
Yeah. I have a few cool ones, I just thought maybe using a NOS would sort of be blowing out all the stops. Still haven't decided. Probably won't until the last minute when I stick a blade in it, or put it away and grab something else. Thanks. One vote for keeping it as is.
I noticed the soap on your SOTD post. So far it sounds very promising. I look forward to your thoughts after further use.
24th consecutive focus! Plan on using my most expensive/ quality razors for this month. (Hopefully, three of them are currently at Glen's getting touched up.) Have some travel planned and will use a newly plated DE I haven't used before. For brushes, will rotate through my Omega Boar, 28mm Ubersoft 2 Synthetic, and Envy White Badger. Soaps, I plan on using up the rest of the Barrister & Mann soap that won't die, then going back to my rotation. Again, focused enabling, and shenanigans instigation. Would anyone be crazy enough to do a blindfolded shave, using a shavette or straight? Medical attention is decadent, right?
I say go for it. But.....it's me so take that under advisement. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Considering that the most "decadent" items in my den are an Aristocrat Adjustable razor and some VdH "Luxury" soap, I'm just going to go with a continuation of last month's non-focus and just try to enjoy hassle-free, bloodless shaves. That said... December 1, 2016 Razor: F2 Gilette Fatboy (4) Blade: Astra SP (3) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: Mineral Fusion/Dove Hydrating Cream Because of yesterday's family crisis, I skipped shaving and hit the ground this morning with two days of surprisingly coarse stubble. I upped the FatBoy to '4' to compensate and went to town. Two passes to a very nice DFS.
Decadent isn't always fancy. I consider VdH Deluxe soap to be decadent in how it always produces a thick and slick lather. Mmmmmm good.
Decadent as an adjective means reflecting a state of moral/cultural decline. As a noun, it means a person who practices luxury and self indulgence. So I guess a blindfolded shave with a pain stick, using only the finest products, whilst listening to Miley Cyrus and drinking cognac perhaps would be the right balance here.
Hey, I can only decline so far! After a certain point it becomes work to keep getting lower. Attempting to listen to Hannah Montana is work! If I am working, then I can't really be treating myself to luxury and self indulgence.
