Only one Tobacconist in town keeps it in stock. I haven't had opportunity to speak to the buyer, only several clerks. They're a Cigar store that also sell a bit of pipe products. One day I'll catch the right guy there and get the inside scoop. The Perique as presented is in a six inch square by one foot tall air tight container and is sold by the ounce. It is ribbon cut with long strands, maybe 2 to 4 inches in length. I've purchased two times from them with the product varying from very moist and needing to dry, to just right for my preferences. The source, St. James Parish (our Louisianan name for a County) is on the other end of the state from me. A tour is on my list of Things To Do.
Preferences being subjective I may not have found one that agrees with me yet. My experience to things of a smokey nature; I've found I don't like Mesquite smoked meat, but I do enjoy Hickory, Pecan, and some Oak. The few Latakias I've encountered hinted at an extinguished campfire. Just didn't suit my current desires. But that's OK, more for you! Chris @Bama Samurai may recall - anyone else a fan of the smokey smoke?
Correct! The "smokiest" I have encountered, again as mention, subjective, is Boswell's Northwoods. Someone on a pipe forum mentioned it's like smoking a campfire. I would agree with that description. My favorite blends (OJK, Arrowhead and Nightcap) have Per in them. I buy those baccy by the pounds.
Chacom with a light load on the front porch. It's getting cool outside by local standards. Glad to be back indoors relaxing by the glow of the electric heater.
Enjoying some MacBaren Vanilla Creme in my Dr. Grabow El Dorado. One of my favorite aromatics. Has a nice, light vanilla flavor and the room note is amazing.
Thank you, actually Paul's Pipe Shop thanks you! It's a great little smoker. I have 4 different Cayuga pipes now every one smokes great. Just an FYI Paul's is having their annual huge Pipe sale through the end of year. Well worth checking out their site. And if you want something specific say a blue Dr. Gabow Dublin from 1970...they have it! 1980s era unsmoked GBD they have those to! Their house pipes Cayuga's are IMO the best value in pipes you can find. I was there last Saturday and snagged these 2 sets (last one of each they had) No matter how obscure call them. One of the best BM is the country.
Hearth & Home Walnut in a falcon with a meerschaum bowl on a cool evening, sitting by the firepit with my buddy George Dickel. Sitting by a firepit on a cool evening is a good time for contemplation.
Pinch of Perique added to a bit of rubbed out Burley in the Rossi Prince. I like the nuttiness of the burley straight up. The blend produced a hint of fruitcake flavor. Together it's a morning eye opener with a cup of coffee.
Solani 656 does truly exhibit the nuttiness of burley. I also catch notes of bread dough and beer. The Vitamin N is substantial to me. I can totally see the fruitcake angle.
