1. "Faultless" is stamped on the back of the tang. I've wondered the significance of that.

That first question is a real tough one to answer, so I'll have to ask my wife. Errrr... maybe not!

  2. Several different companies imported razors under the "Faultless" name from Germany which is why I asked :)
The razor was stamped NY on the front but looked more Solingen by design and engraving..

Two types of razors I always recommend for people to try when looking for the "Best"

#1 NY made preferably stamped Little Valley NY or close to it, they have some of the finest grain steel you can find and will take and hold Wicked Sharp edges

#2 Japanese made western hollow grind style, again the steel is very tight grained and the hold a freaky smooth edge

  3. Thanks. That is helpful. I figured the razor was not made by Charles Adam as their main products were eyeglasses and not razors. This razor really takes an edge and holds it! It's super sharp and the edge looks great under 60x magnification even after repeated shaves.

I've seen some SRs stamped with Little Valley NY recently at a flea market and would love to try one out.

    Yeah, SRs are addictive!

  5. It is true vintage razors are in general cheaper than modern razor and custom modern razors can go to silly prices. I did not start 'traditional shaving' because of nostalgia nor to save money. I started to improve my shave and then it became a hobby. My preference is for modern razors but I own and enjoy a couple of vintage straights too.
  6. You know what? I think you did warn me about a year ago! Did I listen? Well.... nope!

    I really love this hobby!

    ;)

  7. Maybe there's no real right answer, but what is the best modern SR?

  8. "Best" meaning what? The most comfortable? The keenest edge? The fanciest embellishments? The best value? Most expensive?
I've had some great shaves from some pricey modern razors and have had equally comfortable shaves from 150-year old plain janes.
I do have 'favorites' I'm drawn to and they tend to get more playtime than the rest. I keep 18 or so shave-ready razors at hand and try to work them all into a regular rotation— yet some keep popping up more than others. I'd be hard pressed to pick out the 'best' of my own lot.

  9. My wife is a light blonde, and she has some red highlights. Nothing from a bottle. So, I guess I'm lucky in the wife hair department.

  10. By that, are you saying........ that your wife and mother dont get along very well? Lol, just kidding.
  11. Heavy vintage hollow point near wedge Washington works Wostenholm&sons. They just seem to have a gentle soul and a keen edge.

  14. I'm seriously considering getting a modern straight for the collection. This Dovo "Pearlex" is at the top of the list. With a PayPal $10 coupon this can be had from the UK for $114 total. I do have a question for @gssixgun: Are there any issues with the new Dovo blades that you may have noticed? I'm thinking that I should just have it honed right away?

  20. Well, it's about the prettiest, guilded razor I've seen. I like it, but I would be afraid of scratching it.
It reminds me of what someone asked of George S Patton, about his pistols, and his reply.
