Razor: Gillette Red Tip A-4 1955 Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (3) Brush: Maggard 22 mm Synthetic (Secret Santa) Soap: Reef Point Soaps Dragon's Blood Aftershave: Myrsol Blue First time using this soap and I must say I am very impressed. I whipped up a great lather to the point that I squeezed out the soap left in the brush and had another pass XTG in the opposite direction. Ended up with a BBS after chasing the baby all over the bathroom.
We are finally getting some "seasonal" weather, right? The south half of "the big lake" just crusted over two nights ago. I know a lot of people are talking climate change, but if we aren't driving on it by New Year's, THEN I'll say it's weird. Seen it before. Lots of times. A buddy of mine just bought up a half section of land that has a no access, KILLER panfish (12" + crappies all day long) lake we used to have to drag kayaks in a quarter mile to fish. Now my spoiled butt will be driving out to get them.... Every once in a while, it really is good to live in the Northwoods, isn't it?
Yes it is good to live in the woods. We have a nice lake about a driver and a 3 wood away. Good fishing there also.
Another great photo Doug. When I first opened the Dragon's Blood soap I didn't know what to think of the scent. Now it is one of my favorite scents.
I live about a half mile straight east of Lake Bemidji, MN, but I am way more of a panfish guy than a walleye guy. I have a little 17' Alumacraft that I pretty much live in when ice is off. Early ice off is crappies, and a couple of lakes we hit for walleyes, then mid season Northerns, then walleyes again after the water turns over. I just drained the lower unit of my boat last night () ! It was so cold, the oil wouldn't come out. Had to take a torch to it... Oof.. Two year old Yamaha, trying not to blister paint... Guess I pushed it a week or two too hard, but the weather was so nice! This was the first time I ever was out after Thanksgiving.
Saturday Afternoon.... Hope you all could do as well.... ***EDIT.... That sounded bad. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did....
I feel the same way about the scent. I do, however, remember reading your post about this, so I'll give it a few shaves. I did like the performance though.

Very nice. The color of the brush and razor compliment each other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Decadent December Arko & Omega No.20248 Weck and Personna blade Gillette 195 and Ladas SS Alum and Lilac Vegetal AS Arko likes a big boar brush. I want to like this shavette. Only two nicks this shave during full WTG & XTG passes. Taking my own advice I ATG'd and did clean up passes with the Fat Boy. Good heat from the alum on my neck and styptic stopped the chin weeper. Decadent Lilac finish with the Heroic Veg. Good Shaves Y'all!
Decadent December!! December 10 Razor - Fatip Piccolo Blade - (1) Soap - Route 66 Sweeney Todd Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Alum I'm dedicating this shave to the honorable Sultan of Danger himself, @wristwatchb . At his request, I'm loading up "'Murica's Best Blade" (although it's Japanese but who's counting) and taking it for a spin with the Route 66 Sweeney Todd he so generously introduced me to. And, just to prove I'm either extremely confident or entirely insane, I'm putting it in the Fatip. Yes, a super sharp blade known to be a bit on the bitey side in a super aggressive razor known to let blades bite. I feel pairing it with a more likely Super Speed or Aristocrat would just be an insult this time. Besides, the Route 66 seems plenty slick so what's the worst that can happen? Charlie has also been trying out some Russian blades lately so in the spirit of good international blade relations, and in my position as Blade Czar, diplomacy requires that I show some diplomatic courtesy. I have used the Feather on rare occasion so I'm not unfamiliar with it. In this razor, however, I'm smart enough to know that riding the cap could well save face. Literally. So, that was the strategy. The Sweeney Todd and Wolf whipped up another great lather tonight after a bit of experimenting. The softer badger (compared to the Semogue) needed a bit extra water to get it right but it wasn't tough to dial in. First pass was quite effective and definitely made me aware I had a sharp blade in. Nice, smooth and comfortable but a definite high rate of reduction. Second pass turned into a pass and a half with some extra clean up and I called it good. The baby stuck his head in to say hi but may not have stayed long. And, there were about 4 or 5 small spots on my neck where the Feather did its worst. But nothing severe. The alum....well....let's say HOT, but that wasn't unexpected. After the shave I can feel a bit of irritation on my neck so I'll throw some Nivea on. The woody orange scent of the soap is still with me and it's a great subtle scent. Overall I'd rate this shave well above average and I'm happy to say that this round of blade diplomacy is a rousing success.
This morning's shave was awesome. I also received a tub of Route 66 from @wristwatchb on Friday, in the Bay Lime Twist scent. Bay Rum scents are hit or miss for me, because some of them smell overwhelmingly of cloves to me. @Salty Belle , you made a great scent here. Sweet Bay, with just a bit of citrus to close it out. And the great performance everyone but @NCoxSTL knew about. Lathered it up with my boar. I've used this brush for two and a half years now, and even moved the knot to a different handle. Softest of my brushes. The vintage Boker razor is one I had restored. New horn scales, aluminum wedge, and a polish. Takes a great edge and give me four and a half passes of comfort. Tickeled the Baby, but just missed him. Closed out with mentholated Stephan Island Lime. Great shave. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
Boy, you make it sound like I'm just stubborn and stupid. It's not that at all. Well, ok, so stubborn maybe. But not stupid. Well, not totally. Some. Maybe 30%. But at least I have the ability to learn. Sometimes. I may be onto an explanation for all of the marriages here. Hmmmmmmm.......
