This is the last hone of the day. Its a Wade & Butcher, Camel Bone scales. It came, supposedly shave ready, and being that this was the first straight razor I have bought in 30 years. It was supposed to be "Shave Ready" and the seller had been recommended by others here. It wasn't shave ready, and
it took about 600 strokes on the strop to get it sharp enough to shave. I have had this in the rotation for about 4 months, and the edge fast declined. I decided that today was the day to put a new bevel on it, as I could see the old one was uneven. The heel wasn't very sharp either.
Soooo, of to the hones I went. One strip of tape, and my usual progression, with emphasis on the heel. King 1k, unknown 3k/8k, Welsh Slate Stones 8k 12k 15k, Chromium oxide linen strop, Illinois 827 Russian leather strop 75 strokes, and Illinois 206 smooth leather 30 strokes.
End result, excellent. The Wade & Butchers sure can take a very sharp edge, without much effort. I will be shaving with it sometime this week.
