PIF: Mike's Bay Rum (1/3 used)

no, anti-clove. And that's interesting you put Old Spice in with your comment-now that I recall, I always felt that Old Spice was all sea/bay.

 

Knowing that scents are not quantifiable in a truly scientific sense - I accept a small amount of clove. I have my limits. I'm not sure what sea/bay smells like. Here on the south coast I'd guess creosote piers, dead dried fish, and brackish water.

I don't find it very "clovey" at all. As far as I know Mike doesn't add and clove oil to it - just bay and bergamot, so any "cloviness" comes from the bay.

A little research on West Indies Bay Tree (pimenta racemosa) and eugenol can teach us a lot about the "cloviness" in bay rum.

 

well that's true-I did read where clove scent is vital in the formation of Bay Rum aftershave/shave soap, etc...I guess A LITTLE BIT is OK.

 

I assume that eugenol is a LOT more concentrated in cloves than it is in the bay tree. You should be fine with this one
