And there was. Bad enough I had to stop in the middle of my shave and dig out the styptic. Damn near finished a cup of coffee before I could start up again. And it reminded me that the only other time I have cut myself this badly was my first shave with my last AC razor. Hmmmm.
So I got to looking a bit. I had read before about the SS razor and its very wide, rounded bevel. At the time, being my only AC style razor, I had nothing to compare it to. With a small blade exposure, it requires a pretty steep angle. Sorry the pic is so bad, I was shaky from blood loss, and it was a pretty close up shot.
It isn't a bad angle necessarily, but it requires a little different stroke. When you try to start a stroke XTG or ATG, with my coarse stubble, there it pretty good resistance. Hard to tell the difference between whiskers and flesh.....

Am going to have to work around this one for a while.
The effective angle of my Irving Barber is much shallower. It allows for a much easier start up of a stroke. I have also read that the Feather DX does not have the same rounded bevel of the SS. I do not know why the difference exists.
I think I will change this blade out for a Super. That increase in blade exposure should lessen the angle a guy needs to use. Plus, if I am going to flay my face open again tomorrow, I want to do it like a Super Professional.
Other than that, it was a pretty good shave. The kami style is super nimble, and my neck is as smooth as I have gotten it to date.
I am considering that a lesson learned before the January focus starts. I probably won't have my stitches out til the end of the first week, but I am still planning on a good month.
