Other than Ebay where are some places that everyone gets there stuff. I know that some are trade secrets but come on. Throw a guy a bone here. I have been all over the web and haven't found anything. I killed my Ebay account due to shipping costs and the outrageous fees and the lack of buyer feedback. So now I gotta get my fixes else where.:signs083
I've seen some pretty good deals at the Goodwill site. www.shopgoodwill.com Shhh! keep it a secret!:happy102
Depends on what you're looking for. I shop for razors on this site, through the classifieds. I buy my blades through amazon. Derby sells their stuff direct through them and you can get 100 for about 13 bucks, with approx. two bucks for shipping. Amazon's shipping fees for other products (proraso) is ridiculous. I bought everything else (shaving mug and brush) through classicshaving.com. I have no recommendations for selling.
I get my stuff from other shaving forum members either through forum classifieds or trades. I don't get a lot of stuff though as I already have what I need. If you're looking for a wide variety then good luck! I would also like to know if there's a large stash of quality inexpensive razors for sale all in one place somewhere I hope razorxchange catches on, I need to put some razors up there myself
I'm open to ideas! I don't have a load of money to promote it so it needs to be "low budget marketing"
I've bought 3 straights from RazorXchange 2 from Klaus and 1 from kenRup wish more people would put stuff on it, became a member here though it also after buying a TSD pack (soap, cream and aftershave) on the exchange
I get almost all of my razors from either antique stores or estate sales. I have about 70-80 right now. Do I need all these? Obviously not, but if I hadn't bought them they would still be sitting there in that shop collecting dust or in a landfill somewhere. My wife and I average about five hours on the road every Saturday. We are looking for many things for her eBay business, but I get all the razors. They never see their way to eBay. I will very occasionally post a "for sale" ad in the classifieds forum, but mostly I either look to help people out that are looking for something in particular. I have also sold many to previous buyers. Just last night a former purchaser of a fatboy and slim decided to add one of my mint Gold Techs and a really nice 1953 40's style SS to his collection.
-1 Never found anything decent in my neck of the woods and when I found something the prices were outrageos - like 100USD for an old, rusty, broken straight razor....
I scout ebay constantly, I have always had no problem leaving feedback as a buyer, and always include shipping in my bid price. I also hit antique stores around town, and found a couple at a flea market.
I think that all the forums, SMF, B&B, and Shaveden (my favs) are great resources. You actually might pay a little more for items, but you can usually count on the items better than described, and cared for more than just a buy/sell person on the bay. Good Luck! J
Sorry Klaus I suppose that I forgot to mention that some stores have owners who live in a fantasy world where old rusty, chipped, mangled razors still expect us to pay $100 plus for those "vintage" razors. I have a local one here who has a torrey razor for 165.00, and yes it has more missing of the blade than actual blade itself. oh yeah, she also will not budge on that ones price.
