I configured a MacPro on Apple’s site. I’m so going to buy a new PC with Windows XP later this month.

I'm sorry to hear about the data loss, and yes, installing windows Vista is about the worst mistake you can make when you own a PC. Even worse than using goo from the can for shaving :D

I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate on my home laptop last year and had minimal problems. The only piece of software that didn't work was iTunes. I was lucky though, Toshiba had Vista drivers available for my computer before I updated. I would suggest to everyone who is installing/updating to Vista to check to see if drivers are available for their PC model (esp. if your PC is not super-new).
Now, at work, (where I administrate a small-ish network) all the PCs are sticking to XP SP3.

Sorry to hear about the Computer Crash. I went into Best Buy yesterday and looked at a couple of Vista based systems for my father-in-law. The system was loaded to the hilt and Vista was still a pig. No thanks.

I got a free Business upgrade coupon on my Dell work computer and have been running Vista for a year without problems. Of course it was hard to change I did go back to XP Pro at one point, but quickly hopped back to Vista. With Service Pack 1 and the ability to integrate any desktop search product (Copernic for me), I think it's great.
