The great, fearsome, awful, horrible, terrifying and deadly ice storm of '17 continues.............to underwhelm in the Lou. Normal day at work, even better sales than expected, and the weather people are beginning to look a bit idiotic. Oh wait, the third and most dangerous wave approaches tonight!!! Go to your ice shelter, stay off of the roads, pray to the gods of all ages to save us from..........wet and cold that may or may not freeze. I love the hysteria. Anyway, let's shave.

Second night with the Astra SP and Fatip to settle it in as the Feather will be up tomorrow and Monday. Based on the alum this was a better job than last night. I made sure to keep all pressure off and took it a bit easier on my neck. Still have a very near BBS but quieter alum and that awesome after-shave feel of the Route 66. The Astra put down a smoooooooooooth shave as it usually does and I'm ready to shift gears to the Feather tomorrow. I'll be looking to see if it stays smooth and avoids that danger zone and if the Astra is as sharp as the Feather in the result.

Hope your weekend has gone well. If you're having worse weather than here you have my condolences. If it's better weather, well, what can I say. You are charmed.

Today in South Carolina was in the mid to upper 70's and sunny. Definitely shorts and t-shirt weather.

I have been slack about posting my last few shaves, but have been faithful to the cause. Last night the ol' sinuses were bothering me, so I broke out an old soap sample I didn't think would see the light of day again: Stirling Obsidian. This stuff feels like putting straight ice on your face. But it is a great lather nonetheless.

I continued on with the Magic shavette with a new Treet blade. I worked two solid passes with the shavette, then did an ATG pass with the GEM 1912 Damaskeene. It was quite a good shave. Lots of feeling, followed by very little feeling. That Obsidian is POWERFUL good stuff. I finished up with a cold water rinse to enhance the experience. Then splashed on some Barbasol Brisk followed by some Osage Rub. By then, my sinuses were clear and I could feel no pain (or anything else, for that matter). Supposed to hit the 70's all this next week, so I may be on a menthol kick to cool off a bit.

My posts on brushes were not meant to be dogmatic or point one to a certain kind of brush. I was trying to convey that there is a huge variety in badger brushes with something for every taste, need and budget very much like cars. Because of the huge variety, the buyer needs to have an idea of what they want and try to tick off as many boxes as you can.

Charlie, I agree Wet Shaving like all other hobbies has huge amount of information to digest for newbies. This can cause information overload or spending to much time worrying about the small stuff. As one moves into a new hobby or skill, my advise is not to worry about the small stuff until you have mastered the big things. The reverse would be worrying about minor suspension adjustments on a motorcycle when you can barely ride the thing. The 30 thread helps prevent newbies to wet shaving from allowing this scenario to occur.

I wish I could find a firearms forum that had members with a similar attitude to the one here.

A fantastic sunny Sunday morning here in Atlanta. After bitter cold last weekend, we are expecting temps today of 75°F. If you don't like the weather in Atlanta just wait a little while and it will change. This is first week of my Soap & Brush a Week routine. Up first is the Zenith Boar B02. This brush has an aluminum handle with a loft of 26mm x 64mm. I recall paying around $25 for the brush. From the first use, it was softer and a joy to use with no break in required. The soap this week will be Route 66 Rum Runner. I find the scent to be a very pleasurable mix of rum and sugarcane over base notes of sandalwood. I will admit that the scent is opening up the further I get into the puck.

So with the preliminaries out of the way, onto the shave. I face lather exclusively and the soft tips make this big boar a joy. In short order I had a mountain of wonderful slick lather. Two passes, XTG & ATG, with minimal touchups ended in a near BBS. No time to chase the baby since I am leaving shortly to go spend the day with my mom. I hope everyone has a fantastic Sunday.

First shave of the 7 o'clock Green Focus. My Sunday shave starts the work week. My face has been resting since Friday. All blades shave good on Sunday, but today, I was blown away. The first pass(WTG) pretty much did the deed. The second pass(XTG cheeks and chin,ATG neck) was just bayoneting the wounded. There was some very minor under the jawline touch up. The Alum block was silent as the steppes in winter. I've been using a cold towel finish for several weeks and I think it's really great. The boys from St. Petersburg have handed the gentlemen from Tokyo a major setback in this audition. You may have noticed the color scheme of my post. I have a rooting interest in this afternoon's Cowgir...er, boys v Packers game. My son is a big fan of Clay Matthews. And I am not a big fan of the owner of Jerry's World. GO PACKERS!!!
