I prefer three pieces; usually the head profile fits me better. Notable exception is the Schick Krona.
Three piece for me. I don't know if it is the head geometry or the blade angle or what, but I have never fallen in love with any of the TTOs I have used. I also find most of them to be milder than I prefer. When you get into the more aggressive adjustable types, I just find them to provide a less comfortable shave than three piece razors with comparable efficiency.
Anything can be awesome if you like it. I really think both are fine if it's a quality razor. Just m opinion.
TTO is an ingenious design, but nothing beats a classic - a three-piece DE razor, IMHO. The beauty is in simplicity and cost-efficiency.
...Or you can get the best of both worlds. TTO design, three-piece razor profile. It's hard to beat the Cooper MonoBilt.
It is not TTO (twist-to-open). It is rather snap-to-close. I agree, the profile is similar to a three piece.
The bottom of mine twists and the top opens . I was waiting for Ryan to post about the MonoBilt Sent from my Galaxy S6 using Tapatalk
I have TTOs, 3-piece, injectors, and "flip-top" single edge, and thoroughly enjoy them all. My favorite is a ball-end Tech, but I may be changing my mind to either my '46 hybrid or '47 Milord, which gave me a most triumphant shave tonight with a Black Beauty (I also switched back to my pure bristle Strong Set...I'd forgotten what a great little brush it is).
3-piece is my personal Safety razor favorite of the 2 mentioned by the OP. REASONS 1) My 3-piece razors hold the blade more firmly than my TTO's. 2) My 3-piece razors have a slimmer, more streamlined head that makes it easier to get in tight places, like under the nose. 3) My 3-piece razors are more aggressive than any of the TTO's I have tried, and I like that. 4) My 3-piece razors are significantly heavier and to me are better balanced for a close shave. 5) My 3-piece razors are more versatile - I can use multiple handle/head mix and match combinations for a custom frankenrazor option with each shave. I would add that of all the shave options I have tried (injector, multiblade cartridge, electric, straight razor and DE) the DE is the best compromise between time spent, convenience of product, quality of the shave, and cost of maintaining a sharp razor ready to shave.
Well nobody here judges anyone, and we all respect your courage for baring your soul to us. *Is this too edgy for a custom title?
TTO's for me. I like the fact that there are no parts for me to drop on the floor in a fit of klutziness.
Definitely a twist-to-open razor. Not a butterfly door design, but twisting the knob on the bottom locks and unlocks the top cap, which is hinged and spring loaded. That being said, I'm sure a ball and socket snap to close arrangement could work for razors as well, similar to socket wrenches. I can see how, in some ways, it would be a better design than threading.
