Stunning photo! Out of curiosity, what are the differences between the Aristocrat Jr and the 40s SS of the same years?

I LOVE that soap. Anyone who likes Cella, P160 type soap should really consider this one. It's not a one dimensional marzipan scent, I can't describe it other than to say it's like baking cookies. And Mickey Lee is fantastic stuff, made by a military family, so it's like a bonus to do business with them.

Thank you Jared. That is all that I have turned. I ordered 3 knots, one badger, one boar and one synthetic from TGN and turned the handles to match. Made 5, kept the best (imo) 3. I will probably make a few more for fun at some point because I am enjoying a return to turning after a few years of not touching the lathe!

No thanks. I recognize that the professionals are well above my rudimentary skills. I have a full-time job that I'm quite busy with. I enjoy woodworking as a hobby, and want to keep it that way. Spending a few hours turning a few handles is an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I was thinking that maybe I'd order another knot or two in a couple of months and donate one to the raffle, as this site has taught me so much over the last few months. Spending time on TSD has become a highlight of my day!

From the thread, there doesn't seem to be much difference at all in the first year. Changes came in later years but I do not know if these changed the shaving characteristics or were merely cosmetic.

question on riding the cap.I noticed, for me, that if my face got a little dry or if I had not rinsed my razor in a little wire, riding the cap got harder to do. It seems very easy to identify when the blade is touching and when the cap is in contact is made when there is good moisture present.

Has anyone else notice this? For my second shave riding the cap was made easier by wetting/rinsing the razor more frequently.

You are correct in your observation, when you can eliminate that drag by keeping the same angle, but not really having the cap touch your face, you will have perfected the technique. Very zen.

It's one of my favorite soaps. It's close to Route 66 in performance and smells wonderful.

I didn't take offense, I just feel like a lot of people get the idea from the forums and shave groups that glycerin soaps isn't good to use. Some are better than others, but I would put Mama Bear's glycerin shave soap up against a lot of the tallow and non tallow based soaps. I want to make sure when we give advice to new shavers that we are giving solid advice on what to use. Sorry if I came across as harsh.

Today's shave was so good that if we were in deer camp I'd tell you I'd caught the baby, but we aren't so I will call it what it is: a really DFS.

I have been working really hard at skin stretching lately, and facial contortion, and it is making a bigger difference than I had hoped. I am getting areas smooth without having to go ATG while standing on my head and holding the razor between my toes. Also, as I get better with this thing, I can do better little short cleanup strokes; not quite buffing, but close. The smooth doesn't last as long as areas that I can get ATG, but I could pass a cotton ball test in most of these spots when I leave the bathroom.

Some conversation on another thread inspired me to get out the PdP today, and I am glad I did. What a fantastic, underrated soap. It smells great, with a light spicy, woody scent, and is slick as all get out. You can buy it for less than fifteen bucks, and it is a quad milled puck that will last you somewhere around thirteen hundred shaves. It is another soap that flat out defies the tallow is better mantra.

A good splash of Proraso, again inspired by gents here, and I am a happy, happy shaver.

You have made fantastic progress with the pain sticks over the last month and a half. I recall PdP getting a lot of play in the forums at one time. No more soaps for me though. I have got to use up some of the stuff.
