Rod had to update the scent description on the website because they were getting 3 or 4 inquiries a week asking why they would make a soap that smelled like an old mans pants.

Fatboy February!!!!! February 9 Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (9) Blade - (2) Soap - Tabac Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip Post - Alum So far the Fatboy has a perfect record of BBS on 9 with every blade I've fed it. Even on 3 with the Feather. The GSB is one fine blade and it produced a very nice DFS yesterday at 3 so I'm hoping the streak continues on 9 tonight. I feel like my face is slowly heating up from irritation from the past few shaves and I'm not too surprised given I had the Feather in there twice, and once wide open. It has a tendency to leave things a little touchy even though it provides the baby with ease. I used Nivea Original this morning before leaving for work just to add some moisture and conditioning and I'll use it daily for a bit to get things back in shape. It's not horrible, but I can tell it's had a bit of extra wear from the wide open razor. Tonight's shave did not disappoint. The Teflon blade did a fantastic job of providing a smooth result though a couple of times when I slid off the cap it reminded me quickly. No blood, no problems of any kind, really, except it did feel pretty irritated after the second pass. The good news is - the baby showed up. The not so good was the amount of heat the alum produced. Again, that's the result of the series of shaves, not just this one. I added Nivea at the end and it cooled down nicely. I'll use it again tomorrow morning to condition for the day. Tomorrow night will be the Bic Chrome Platinum. I'm curious to see how well it will do in the two shave test. It is still my favorite non-Russian blade. The Feather may be getting closer to that title so this will be an interesting comparison. I can honestly say that after two plus years of doing this I am really getting a good understanding of how much technique makes a difference. A year ago the Feather was still not in my top 10 blades. The blade hasn't changed.....but I've learned more and more how to use the tools.
Value Focused February Day Nine Honestly, though I referred to the Fat Boy as a BBS machine, I'd forgotten how good it is! It's the razor that convinced me there was nothing left to see in TTO/Adjustable world. Grabbed the Cartel fave, set the Fb on the optimal setting (hint: it's greater than 8), did the full SR skinstretch routine and nearly nailed the baby with an XTG pass, and pass two was mostly touchup for the DFS+. Silent Alum indicated pressure and angle were correct and the finish felt heroic! I've really gotten away from DE over the last 14 months, but the FB is a classic--intuitive angles, nice heft and classic fifties aesthetic. Might hit 74 on the prairie for a bit tomorrow, then ice storm conditions by Saturday night! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a fantastic Friday!
Today I finally managed to get back on focus. The Razor - GEM 1912 Damaskeene The Blade - GEM Personna The Brush - Maggard 24 Plissoft The Soap - La Toja Aftercare - Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Osage Rub, Nivea Sensitive Skin Balm So easy it almost felt like cheating. DFS in mere minutes with a fantastic face feel post shave. This combination is an easy go-to when I need a quick win. Some of my favorite elements at each position. La Toja just works for me. If I had to go Damaskeene and La Toja for the rest of my life, I wouldn't cry. It's just a knockout combo for me. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
February 10 (Friday) - the PAL yet lives! Gillette Fatboy on 3 PAL Gold Thin Hollow Ground carbon ( 37) 1980s drugstore boar brush The Eternal Tub of TOBS Avocado Cream ( croap ) Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent Okay, Jared @PickledNorthern, it seems I was overly hasty in declaring the blade done yesterday after all. It was relatively smooth today although no longer as sharp as in the past. My usual crisscross passes and some cleanup gave me a decent comfortable shave somewhere in the DFS- to CCS range -- definitely no threat to the baby but certainly acceptable and without any signs of irritation. I will continue to run the PAL for a few more shaves, possibly try honing it again once or twice, and see how it goes. Hope everybody has a great Friday!
Mühle Rocca R96 razor Personna Platinum Chrome blade Edwin Jagger Silvertip Fibre brush TOBS Coconut cream TOBS Jermyn Street aftershave Another very smooth shave, with the Rocca / PPC combination. I don't want to switch blades just yet, but this weekend I want to see how it performs with my least favourite blades; Astra blues.
Thanks Jared. Spring is coming, but who knows when. Around the middle of February there is a collective disgust of Winter. It is not until the Sun gets closer to the planet and the days get a little longer, and you feel that warmth on your shoulders just prior to Springs arrival that the mood lightens up.
February 10, 2017 Gillette Aristocrat Jr 1949 Feather (2) “Amigos” Elite Ironwood Beehive with Envy White Czech and Speake Oxford & Cambridge Fine Lavender Happy Friday everyone. This week has gone by very quickly. A very nice 3 pass shave with touch ups provided a near BBS shave. The shaves from the Aristocrat Jr don't seem to be as long lasting as those from many of my other razors. The O&C soap would be a real star if the scent were stronger. I finished the shave with a splash of Fine Lavender. Overall a very good start to the day. I hope everyone has a great Friday.
