Feb 19 Voskhod - Day 2 Merkur 34C HD Voskhod teflon blades Day 2 Homemade preshave oil Stirling Piacenza soap Bulgari Aqua cologne post shave balm Homemade preshave oil hidrates and absorbs nicely and quickly. Equal parts grape seed, castor, EV olive and jojoba seem to work well. I am really liking Stirling Piacenza. I think the basil scent has lessened to reveal a nice tangerine scent to take the top scent notes. I think I have figured out a process to get a great lather from Stirling and is working well. This time I left the soap a little thicker since I had wet my face and I got the nice thick yogurt thickness and great protection with nice slickness. Shave was a bit rushed due to a family gathering. 3 passes, WTG, XTG and ATG yielded a near perfect BBS shave. I did have a cut that closed with alum. The blade is showing a little courseness on its second use. Alum was stinging. Having the desire for some cologne and the wife likes Aqua, I used some Bulgari Aqua aftershave balm. 6 hours later and the face still seems happy. Voskhod blades seem to cut close but lack some smoothness even with excellent protection from the lather. Not happy with the irritation. Will need to see how other sample blades go. I like the closeness but I still needed a ATG to get a good shave. I was careful to keep the pressure light and checked my efforts often to 'ride the cap' so that seemed to be working pretty well as well. My hair grows in too many directions I guess for any single direction to suffice. There is still at least one more shave in this blade so we will see how it performs tomorrow.
Maybe try a GSB tomorrow? Then come back to Voskhod. Your switch yesterday was bad mojo on that blade.
Value Focused February Days Eighteen and Nineteen Don't ever buy a Magic Shavette. You will neglect your other Shavettes. I love this thing! Two passes for the win, alum felt good; only hitch was that I managed a small nick, might've been a blade corner. In keeping with the value theme, I stayed on the La Toja (thanks Secret Santa) and finished it with Florida Water + M Bomb. It's what heroes use on days off. Spent the afternoon with Mrs. Samurai at home, kind of a gloomy and dark day outside with rain moving in soon. Did DIY stuff and bass. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. It was one of the ones you sent. Maybe some Veg got on it and it was hit by gamma rays. I will give it until it is dead before I go to the GSBs. Yeah, that cheap.
You play electric bass? Have an uncle who has over 28 electric basses and lots more amps. He showed us a quilted maple electric blue bass that he had custom made. He ordered it with a 6 string width but made specific for 5 strings. Truly a beautiful instrument. You should sneak one into a photo
Yes, as a hobby player. Full disclosure, I've only been studying with a teacher since December, so I am still a bass newbie. I have a a 2015 Fender Jazz Bass and a 40w Fender bass combo amp. I mess around with a Gretsch Electromatic Guitar as well, played through a 15w Teton chorus acoustic lead amp, "Black Teeth" fuzz effect minimally on most of the time.
Feb 19 - part 2: revenge of the Veg Ok, today was going well. Until now the shave was still very smooth. Voskhod blade did a nice close shave. I figured my daughter went to bed why not try an experiment. Chris sent me some Veg so I splashed some on. First thought was what is everyone complaining about? This is not bad. Not more than 10 minutes and the floral baby powder scent dissipated, I smelt it. Now I need to give you all some back story. I studies biochem in college and often got a little too close to the chemicals and lost some sense of smell. For me to smell something, it must be potent! The Veg strikes back!! It changed. All I now smell is cat piss, urinal cake and baby powder. It won't go away!!! Make it stop!!!!! I went upstairs and washed my face and it won't go away!!!!! Chris, what the hell did you send me???? Uuughhhhh. My only hope is some cheap 1980's cologne It did nothing. This stuff could fight off every body odor with its own awful smell but not this. Adidas cologne was bad then and it could not fight off the Veg and win I am stuck with this till morning. Morn for my olfactory system. It is dead
