  4. Fatboy February!!!!!

    February 25
    Razor - 1959 Gillette Fatboy (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Stirling Sandalwood
    Brush - Semogue 620
    Post - Alum

Four more shaves in February including this one and I'm going to finish Fatboy February with the Fatboy and go back through the new soaps. Stirling tonight - Sandalwood to be exact - with the Semogue 620 brush. I'd like to get a feel for the three new soaps going into March as I figure out my exact plan there.

The lather was amazingly easy tonight with the boar. Quick and painless to load the brush and I got three passes without a problem with left over lather to boot. The sandalwood scent in this one is still awesome. I compared it to the Proraso sandalwood in a sniff test and while Proraso is very good, Sterling beats it. The Proraso is a bit more "soapy" smelling. The Stirling is like smelling fresh wood. Nice!

Three passes with the Rapira blade handing out a near-BBS with no issues. For a blade this inexpensive this one has always been a keeper. Great shave and I'm looking forward to using Route 66 tomorrow night to compare. Hope your Mardi Gras weekend is going great!

... first try with a rapira- bit of tugging etc but will try it again for the next shave to give it a fair trial at least. 1912 was a really nice lather aswell- definitely going to buy on next order.

  12. I had a wonderful time whipping up the lather from the Black Ice soap with my Plissoft synthetic - what a great brush it is. My wife is not a fan of the anise scent but I love it. This soap is well-named because its menthol effect, while much less than the very similar-scented Glacial Obsidian is still stronger than strong enough to please me and both soaps, in fact EVERY Stirling soap has that same unbeatable skincare - so moisturizing, soothing, and protective against razor burn or irritation. The Aqua Velva went on really cold to make the end of this perfect shave a delight! :happy088: :happy088:

Mastro Livi Grifetto 60, 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point

Mastro Livi Grifetto is an amazing straight razor and, in particular Grifetto 60, is really special. This straight razor celebrates sixty years of Mastro Livi dedicated to straight razor making, restoration and revaluation. It shaves very well giving a very smooth shave with no irritations of the skin. Grifetto is one of the many proofs of how Mastro Livi works stainless steel in making superb straight razors. For today's shave I used a couple of English products made by Truefitt & Hills and Geo F. Trumper. It was in fact quite a long time I was not using products from these two prestigious English companies.
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes Shaving Cream
    • Brush: Mastro Livi Perugia Best Badger, Olive Handle, 24 mm Knot
    • Bowl: Old Barber Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Medium Loom Strop "Coramella Italiana" and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi Grifetto 60, 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Umbrian Extravirgin Olive Oil
    • After Shave: Geo F. Trumper Eucris Eau de Toilette
  15. Very nice. I'm running low on my stock of OS, compared to you. I've only around six bottles left.
  16. SOTD: Vintage Geo Wostenholm & Sons 'Celebrated IXL' 6/8" French-point; Stirling 'Orange Chill' tallow soap, TGN 24mm synthetic brush, home-made 'Black River' bay rum aftershave. Three early morning passes; super-smooth results!
    Have a blessed Sunday, gents!

  18. Day 4 of 30 days of straights

Well, I did a little better today than yesterday. I did, however, manage to put about a 2 inch long cut in my left cheek. Other than that, I ended up with a 90% decent shave and 10% where I should have stepped closer to the razor. That 10% is all on my chin and around my mouth. It is better than yesterday, but still not where I want to be.

    DIY Pre-shave Oil
    MDC Face Lathered
30mm High Mountain White set an extra 10mm deep
    3 passes, WTG, XTG, XTG
    6/8 round toe straight

For all of you straight razor guys: How does a newbie tell If they have stropped enough or if the need more stropping? I am not yet skilled enough in shaving to use the razor as feedback.
